Check out One Steamboat Place. It's not cheap but probably the best place in Steamboat.

Went to Silver Mountain in Kellogg, Idaho this winter. First time on the slopes and thought it was a pretty good place. I don't know what qualifies as expensive or not. Think for a full day it was $57. After board, helmet, and boots, I think it may have been around $200 altogether.
