Best Disneyland/ California Adventure Resource?

We will have 2 days at Disneyland as part of a SoCal road trip this summer. 2 adults and a 9-year old. We have the tickets already (non-park hopper) and reservations at a Harbor Blvd. hotel.
What is the best single resource I can read to figure out what I need to know? I know about MaxPass -- I'll buy that when we are at the first park. But that's about it. With only 1 day per park, I don't really want to book any character dining (doubt that my 9-year old would enjoy that as much as she did when she was younger anyway). I need help with touring plans. Maybe a reservation for a dining + World of Color package?
I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the planning for this road trip and would really like 1 resource -- a website or a book -- that will tell me the basics of what I really need to know.
Thanks. (And if you have any tips, feel free to share!)

Check out The Dis boards. A wealth of information and you can ask whatever it is you didn't find.

I would second that. Be advised that with Star Wars opening in a couple of months things are going to be a little different and no one will know how much really until after it opens. I've been twice in the past two years so if you have any questions I can try and answer them.

TigerClub, any restaurant recs not on property? Anything in Downtown Disney or walking distance to the park?
I liked Ralph Brennons when we went last time

I'm not a huge fan of any of the Downtown Disney restaurants, but I haven't been to Catal or Ballast Point. My brother-in-law really likes Catal (Mediterranean), but I haven't had the chance to eat there yet. Ballast Point will be beer (obviously), burgers, flatbreads, etc.
My favorite place for food at DLR is the Grand Californian. Whitewater Snacks is my favorite quick-service restaurant, and I always get carne asada nachos or the burger. Napa Rose at the Grand Californian is the best restaurant at DLR, IMHO. It's a fine dining restaurant that would easily be successful even if it wasn't on Disney property. Reservations are required and it's pricey.
Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel is another place I really enjoy, but I've only been there twice. I ordered the NY Strip, even though ribeye is my favorite cut, because the strip is USDA Prime. Even though the ribeye isn't a Prime cut, a lot of people think it's the better steak, so I'm going to give that a try on my next trip. The chocolate cake is very rich, but a must for chocolate fans.
ETA- I realize you asked about restaurants not on property, but I figured I'd mention those hotel restaurants since they're not in the parks. The best Disney restaurants on both coasts are almost always outside of the parks.

I've never eaten at anyplace off property, but there are plenty of great food options in the parks. Their quick service blows Disneyworld's out the water. The Brennan's place is good and I've also heard good things about the new Ballast Point place in Downtown Disney.
