And it ain't close. If you want to see the Lowcountry, skip Savannah. Beaufort and Charleston.

And while not the subject of this post, Charleston is 10 times better than New Orleans.

Well to correct you, Savannah is not part of the lowcountry, so you can't really "skip it" in that sense.

Check your geographic and cultural terminology. The lowcountry is specific to the lower islands of South Carolina. And to be even more exact, it doesn't include Charleston.

Elevation has nothing to do with it.

And you said not a damn thing relative to the post...Savannah sucks compared to Beaufort and, for the record, neither, touches Charleston.

I couldn't care less about any of them
But both Charleston and Savannah have their own positives and negatives. I've seen enough of both to never have to go back.

I thought Charleston was meh. I stayed at the Vendue, ate at all the "hot spots" (they really know how to frick up shrimp and grits) and took all of the recommended tours. Savannah, on the other hand, was much better imho. I stayed at the Brice and did all of the "fun stuff" there as well. On a final note...I thought the food was a good bit better in Savannah. I didn't do Beaufort so I can't speak to what you posted, but based on my very recent experience (this week), I feel I have reason to question your judgement.

The only thing I know about Beaufort is that it has a Tanger Outlet and that it's on the way to the very overrated Hilton Head Island.

Are you some biased tour guide for Beaufort County or something?

If you love it so much, just move there.

I think Savannah is actually prettier than Charleston. It has a little more grit to it, but the abundance of public squares and parks puts it over Charleston imo.

Nope. But if you stray one block off the tourist section downtown, you're in jeopardy. Check the crime stats, or venture outside the historic area just a bit if you are there. Savannah is not growing in a good direction, and there are legit reasons for its problems.

I agree that it's dicier than Charleston. I still think it's a prettier town.

I appreciate all the details of why it is better. From your post, Beaufort sounds simply stunning.

Beaufort didn't get burned during the Civil War. There is some beautiful architecture to view in the old section of town.

Bay Street is populated by very nice locally owned retailers, art boutiques, restaurants , etc. It has a Mayberry feel to it, all nestled in a picturesque setting right on the water.

The historic district is very clean, very natural, and gives you the feeling that you have gone back in time around 50 years. Quite a contrast to the normal Settings most of us live in. The little town is a breath of fresh air. Better?

Man, you are really smitten over little old Beaufort.

The Old Point is a neat neighborhood and all, but you can see it all before lunchtime.

It's really just a Marine Corps/retiree bed and breakfast town.
