If coming through KC on weekend, Harp bbq is the best! He cooks at Crane brewery.

Any other day, Q39, Joe’s, Jack Stack or Slaps. Fox and fire is a new one in north KC working out of food truck. Haven’t been yet but supposedly really good.

Salt and Smoke was the only spot open. Good stuff. Thanks for the recommendation!

Damn, I’m through KC. I went to Arthur Bryant’s. Joes was closed. AB was solid though. Sorry I missed out. Next time.

Thanks for the rec though.

Memphis- BBQ Shop, Central Downtown, and Germantown Commissary

I lived in Memphis for six years. These are SPOT ON.

To build on it, try the BBQ spaghetti and get a sandwich on Texas Toast at BBQ Shop. It’s not the fastest place around but it’s worth the wait. By far my favorite sandwich in the city.

Central BBQ...it’s ALL about BBQ Nachos. I like to use both the wet sauces and the dry rub.

I rarely ventured out to Germantown because it was a trek. I’ve been to GC a few times and it was always excellent. You could probably go with ribs there or do a sampler of everything.

BBQ Shop and Central are my clear #1 and #2.

Also in Memphis - Cozy Corner. Ribs are good, but the star is their BBQ Cornish Game Hen. And if you're going to try the BBQ Bologna Sandwich, this is the place. It's not that stuff you pulled the red ring off of years ago.

Ignore all entreaties to go to Rendezvous. Great for tourists, but their ribs are grilled, not barbecued.

BBQ Store is a great all around sampler.

But remember, the native dish of Memphis BBQ is the pulled pork sandwich, not ribs.

AB's is fine. It's old school. Definitely not as good as Q39 or Joe's, but it has a lot more history than those.

Another great suggestion. For anyone visiting...it is not the nicest area. It's kind of squeezed between downtown starting and Midtown ending.

For Memphis, Central BBQ if you are trying to stick as close to your road trip path (assuming you’ll be on I-55) as possible... Germantown Commissary if you don’t mind going 10 or 15 miles out of the way.

Honestly, I’d make the detour. Central is good, but Germantown Commissary is elite.

GC made going through IVF not so bad, as it’s just 3 or 4 miles from the fertility clinic we used.
