Looking to go first week of october, are bars and resturants open?

If anyone has been there recently, is it dead?

Most are open but at limited capacity. It has been absolutely packed lately and you need to make reservations pretty much everywhere you go

it was open in July. masks were required everywhere at that time. Essentially the same rules as La except they were strictly enforced.

Depends on how you handle dirty looks or the occasional comments.

Restaurants and bars are limited opening in NC, so I'd call ahead to check and see what the deal is before going out.

NC Phase 2.5 effective 9/4

Link to NC current restrictions, or google NC Phase 2.5 if the link doesn’t work. Scroll down on that site to find a table of restrictions by type of facility/activity.

Where I live most people do not wear a mask when hiking/walking but about 80-90% do otherwise.

Bars and nightclubs are supposed to be closed; a restaurant that serves drinks is ok to open.

A lot of people were wearing them while walking around, but it wasn't required outside. I'd estimate that 70% of people walking around downtown had masks on outside and about 15% had masks on while hiking. I saw one guy nearly pass out trying to carry his gear up a hill with his mask on lol. Everyone required us to have them indoors until we got just outside the city. Most of the restaurants we went to required every other table to be empty so reservations are definitely necessary. This was the first trip I've been on this year where it didn't seem like an escape from all the Covid/BLM BS. It's definitely hard to forget about while you're there.
