We are going to EPM in October, hurricane season permitting, and EOB in May for our honeymoon. Really looking forward to them as I have never done an all inclusive.

Anyone that has been to EPM, how hard is it to get good beach spots? We are staying in an excellence club room so we have access to exclusive chairs, but do I still have to get up at the 6:30 in order to save one?

Also, we don't mind waiting for tables, what would be the average wait time for the best restaurants?

Secrets maroma beach

Been looking at this one for a few years. Did they hit you up with the sales pitch to buy?

Went to Secrets Maroma in April. Stayed in the Preferred Club Junior Suite Ocean View...apparently no sales pitch with Preferred Club bookings. Get Oceanfront and skip the swim out rooms there. Personally think they are overrated.

Beautiful resort, but beach was covered with seaweed...bummer. Breakfast was incredible. Did not like the steak restaurant there. Everything else was great!

We've been three times between PM and RM and each time is great. Such an easy and relaxing trip. Would go back a 4th time.

Went earlier this summer. It was absolutely fantastic. Grounds were impeccable, food was good, and drinks were plentiful. We had a large group and never had any issue getting beach chairs even on the non-EC side. We never made it out to the beach before 9 either. The pool was a bit harder if you wanted to be by the main pool. However, there were tons of available chairs along the lazy river.

We only had a wait for the Indian restaurant. However, we just walked over to the martini bar and drank while waiting. I think the wait was 45 minutes.

For the price, Excellence is hard to beat.

Stayed at Excellence El Carmen in June and it was incredible.

Service and people alone made it worth it! The resort was clean and beautiful. Food was pretty good as well.

When I was booking it was between El Carmen and Punta Cana, but I don't think you can go wrong with either from my experience and research.

Another recommendation from me. Wife and I have stayed at both in Mexico and El Carmen. Loved all 3. EPM and EEC were slightly better but that's splitting hairs. Only downside was the seaweed at El Carmen - but the service there was incredible. Language is a little better in Mexico - they've been at this longer than the DR has so that's understandable.

We will be going back to EPM again and we'll check out Oyster Bay as well. If we go back to the DR, we will go back to El Carmen or go to Secrets Cap Cana - that's the two it was down to last time. It's just hard to move away from Excellence because they really do a great job with everything.

Any issues with seaweed on the beach? We went to Punta Cana in May and seaweed was terrible.

They have seagrass there, which I much prefer over seaweed. It is mostly right off of the shore. If any does wash up, they have those machines that scoop it away.

When we were there (May), the seagrass started a few feet once you got in the water and continued for about 15-20 feet off the shore. The water then turned crystal clear. You can see Isla Mujeres off in the distance as well as the bright turquoise colored water in between EPM and Isla.

We absolutely loved EPM and have been looking for something comparable elsewhere in the Caribbean.
