Was going to book an Alaskan cruise and noticed Holland America to be about 1000 bucks cheaper for the dates I was looking to go on Alaskan cruise. Still had the itinerary I wanted with glacier bay. Anyone have any experience with this cruise line ? Any help would be appreciated

Lots. What do you want to know? Generally an older group of people kn board. But shouldn't matter with an inside passage in Alaska if you already have your ideas for shore excursions

Generally an older crowd

HAL stops at a few places the others don't. Sitka and Haines in particular. If your ship stops at one of those, it's a huge plus

Older crowd is great with me. Me and wife are in our early 30s and going with couples that are early 40s. We don't drink or care to be around any big nightlife. Just getting away with some close friends to check out some cool sights and for a new experience. Alaskan cruise has always been on the bucket list.

I have cruised three times with HAL, twice to Alaska and once in the Mediterranean. I liked them. I would recommend them for your Alaskan cruise.

Yeah they don't get much cruise ship traffic and are beautiful

Glacier Bay is a must. Tracy Arm too if your ship hits both.

All ships stop in Juneau and Ketchikan. Most stop in Skagway too

Alaskan routes already attract an older crowd as it is, and as others have mentioned, Holland gets an older crowd than other mainstream lines.

An older crowd has its pros and cons. Much less chance of dealing with drunk idiots.

I’ve been on HAL 3 times, NCL, and Celebrity to Alaska and have never seen this.

It’s too cold to sit outside drinking all day! Haha!

My first cruise was in 1984. I used to try to avoid cruises with older crowds. Now I am getting to the point where I fit in just fine with them. Fortunately I can also still hang with the drunk idiots.

The only issue with HAL in Alaska might be the shore excursion offerings. I know for a fact they offer less adventurous excursions. If you're up for something with a bit of risk, get your excursions through a third party

You're going to hate HAL at your age. The ship is dead after 8pm. Try Celebrity.

Holland ships are really nice, but the ship is definitely geared for older folks and if you want less crowded, do the later version of everything. Everything early will be packed. It's a floating old folks home.

Ships are very mellow though and good for relaxing. They usually do a fun event on most ships on a day at sea where you build a model ship before hand made of things either from the ship or brought from stops that has to carry a six pack of coke in the pool. It's judged on creativity and ability to float the 6 pack. It's fun for geeks like me.

Food is very much catered to the older folks, expect things not to have much taste. A lot of bland food for their old folks bellies.

Agree with the above poster, Celebrity sounds more your speed. More in your age range and still a bit mellow and not geared for the party crowd. Some of that can still be found if you want it.
