Anyone done the Kalalau Trail?

Heading back to Kauai in September and my wife has agreed to do the Kalalau Trail in exchange for the St. Regis - so obviously I’m taking that deal.
Anyone have experience doing the whole Trail? Anywhere to rent a tent in Kauai? Doing Maui first and don’t want to lug around a tent that’s getting used one night.

Prefer The Grand Hyatt. Just sayin’. MUCH better pools , pool service and grounds.
I know a few people here have done it . I’d love to someday . Remember you have to get a permit and I’d plan on camping two nights and being on the trail theee days . They say it’s quite a slog .

I booked 7 nights at the Grand Hyatt in July. I went the other day to book a permit for this trail and they were sold out through early September already

The St Regis is north shore , which is better imho. But those Grand Hyatt pools man. And those drinks at the pools...
St Regis does have a way better beach . And a way better view. And snorkeling on that beach. And it is close to Hanalei . So love it too. But the Grand Hyatt just does it for me.

Only available permits were for in the 19th out the 20th of September. Had to readjust the entire trip but that was the only option to do it.
We were at the Grand Hyatt in October and it really is an awesome hotel. The St Regis makes more sense being on that side of the island though

End of Nov, Grand Hyatt was doing a major reno to the pools. I'd have been pissed if I was staying there while that was going on. Just something to look into. Not sure when it would be finished up.

Glad you could make it work . Let me know how it is!

I’ve hiked it twice. The best hike I’ve ever done. Challenging, beautiful, and ultimately rewarding when you arrive at Kalalau. Fantastic huge sparsely populated beach, pools and waterfalls just inland.

How long did the hike in take you? Did you pack a tent? Thinking now we may just bring hammocks.

Kauai is pretty well-known for it's unpredictable weather. I had to scramble to put on my flap multiple nights after falling asleep to completely clear skies

Ha yeah I wouldn't do a hammock with a wife due to chance of rain.
I'd also make sure you do a 3 or 4 man tent. It's nice to have a little extra space if you get any rain to have some room to dry your gear and stay away from the walls.

whole Trail?
we tried.
we got to hanakapiai and decided to go to the falls instead....
just be aware the footpaths get narrow after the beach making footing difficult to impossible in wet conditions. (september= dry season ending)
btw, the st regis is awesome.
you just can't beat the view.
probably my favorite starwood property.
re: tent
fwiw, i dont think the "whole" kalalau is considered a beginner trail....
you may get pleasantly surprised if you're expecting to hike the whole trail (and back) in a day.
(i'd want to prepare for not perfect weather...and have gear i trusted)
