I know I’ll probably get blasted for this, but I have a rental car for a portion of my stay in New York because I’m going to a convention for 2 days in Edison, NJ. Problem is I’ll be staying in Manhattan so if anyone knows of safe areas where I can park near a station that can get me to my car for the portion of my trip while I have it, that would be greatly appreciated.

Getting car from Newark and flying from Nola into Newark. I’ll also be driving upstate for a day during my week stay so that’s also why I have the rental but I’ll be returning it and staying in the city for the rest of the trip. It’s just for the 3 days or so I will need to find a place to put it that’s safe and preferably not crazy expensive

You can take a train from Manhattan to Edison for about $12. They take about and hour and run every 39 minutes. Uber from the Edison station to the convention . Or rent the car in Edison and then drive upstate.

I guess I’d just find a paid deck near your hotel in the city. Or maybe look in Hoboken if you don’t want to come into the city. It’s in the way from Newark and convenient by ferry from midtown.

If you’re in Edison, easiest would be to park at the Edison station and take NE Corridor into Penn. Think it’s about an hour each way.

Haven’t ridden from the station itself, but have gone through it on the way to Princeton several times.

ETA: Sorry, I didn’t realize you were staying in Manhattan. Thought you were staying in/near Edison and going to Manhattan after the convention. Unless I’m missing something, this makes everything easier, no? Don’t worry about the car and just take NEC on NJ Transit to Edison. Can Uber from there.

The Metropark station is safe for overnight parking. 15 min to Edison. Train to NYC

Your logistics seem weird, I'm assuming you have a free place to stay in Manhattan those 2 days, or you just want to stay in the same place for your entire trip. Also, do you need to drive the car to Edison those 2 days, or just have it parked? If you need to drive you best bet is to find overnight parking near your place, I had to do this before (helping a friend out, not my choice), we talked to several hotel valets in the area and they gave us a few good garages. Wasn't cheap, think we found something for under $50/night.

If you don't have to drive I think some of NJ NJ Transit stations have safe parking lots.

I’m not going to lie I didn’t realize the train station went as far as Edison. This trip will be a learning experience to say the least. The place I’m going is still too far from Metuchen station if that’s the main one to walk so I’ll need to Uber still regardless from the station.

Thanks for the advice so far, way more helpful than the OT haha.

And yep I’ll be in Manhattan the entire trip. A friend is joining me. Initially I was going to go alone and planned on staying in Jersey most of the time
