Alaska Cruise : How necessary is Glacier National Park?

Huge price difference between sailings that do and don't go into the park. I'm hearing it's a must do. But a verandah on the Holland ship is going for $1500 more than the Royal Carribean ship and $600 more than the Holland ship which goes to another glacier instead.
Looks like they all cheat you on British Columbia (get in at 6pm leave at 11pm)
Any Alaska cruise advice? Is Holland the line to go with? Is it too old crowd?
I like that Holland offers an all inclusive price with drinks and a signature meal, and gratuities paid.

Been on The Ms Nordam HA cruise in Glacier Bay and it’s pretty remarkable. Definitely a day I won’t forget. Not just the glaciers but wildlife. Having said that went on a day cruise out of Juneau to the Tracy arm and actually found it prettier than glacier bay. I think mostly because a smaller boat with more intimate feel.

Glacier Bay on a nice day is out of this world. However, so is Tracy Arm just South of Juneau. The only issue with Tracy Arm can be that the ice sometimes (usually early in spring) prevents ships from getting near the glacier. There are only one tidewater glacier in Tracy Arm, the North Sawyer Glacier retreated up on rock.
Glacier Bay is a broad bay with an extensive shoreline. Tracy Arm is a narrow Fjord.
Hubbard Glacier near Yakutat is also sometimes a stop for cruise ships that cross the gulf.
Tracy Arm
Camped here in 2010
One of the coolest things I've seen there. A bear swimming amongst the ice.

cool pictures.
Beautiful area. Looks like most ships offer either the Park OR Hubbard Glacier. I may only do this once so I'm leaning towards the splurge on HCL. I like the "Have it All" plan. It makes it like an all inclusive. Comes out to about $2200 per for a midship veranda. Royal Carribean is about $1500 per for similar. Though Princess is $2400.

Hubbard Glacier is awesome in it's own right. You can see Mt St Elias (18,000') on a nice day outside of Yakutat. The St. Elias Mts are spectacular, highest coastal range in the world.

Don’t feel cheated about British Columbia. They stop there because there is a weird law that requires all cruise ships that leave out of the US to make at least one stop at another country. It is a very clean and pretty place but you don’t need much time to walk around and get back to the ship. If it wasn’t for the law then they wouldn’t even be making that stop.
We did Celebrity on two Alaskan cruises and loved both.

I wouldn't have wanted to go without going to Glacier Bay National Park. Please note that Glacier National Park is in Montana. I have heard that Tracy Arm is really great, but there are never guarantees that you can go there. It is often frozen in for quite some time. Seeing the multiple glaciers and watching and hearing Margerie Glacier calf is one of the most amazing things of nature I've ever seen.
The Victoria, BC stop is short because of the rules about visiting a foreign port. It's the only reason that port is in there. We just walked around and saw the Empress Hotel, the government buildings, and the cute little downtown area. We had a few beers at a couple of places and went back to the ship.

One of my daughters was a flower girl in a wedding right in front of the Marjorie and Grand Pacific Glaciers. The sound of the thunder drown out most of the ceremony.

True. Victoria is fine but I don’t care about missing it.

Did Celebrity out of Seattle a few years ago. Going next summer out of Vancouver so skipping Victoria.

Just got back from a cruise in the area. Spend the money and do not miss the Hubbard Glacier.

I have been on two Holland America cruises to Alaska and loved them. Both of them were Inside Passage cruises from Vancouver to Seward.
As far as Brittish Columbia is concerned, one time we went up a week early and divided our time between Vancouver and Victoria. Two great vacation destinations.
Glacer Bay is a gorgeous place. I guess the question of whether it is worth a big price difference debends on the alternative.

I've only been on small vessels in Glacier Bay. Its great because you can poke around the inlets and bays.
Lots of wildlife which is one reason people choose it over the other glacier laden areas.

The Hubbard glacier is the cheaper trip...
I booked the July 1st cruise on the Eurodam. I got a verandah on the Rotterdam deck.
Probably going to be an old folks cruise but I'm there for the scenery.

It comes out to about a $1000 price difference at the cabin level and option I want. The only difference Berrien the westwedam and eurodam itinerary I see is one good the Glacier Bay and one Hubbard.
I chose Glacier Bay I'll likely only ever go once.

You'll be happy with it.
For my wife and I who are locals to go to Glacier Bay, do the day boat, stay at the lodge and return the next day its over $1,000. Cruise ships are a bargain, relatively.
