I've never had an issue like this. We are surprising the kids with a Christmas trip to LA. The idea was for them to get up, open presents and open their packed luggage and disney shirts. Since I'm in Kenner Brah, I can leave my house at 8 for a 9:30 flight. Now we have to leave at 5:45 and it's a bummer to fly that early on Christmas.

I don't have the base economy but I don't have the upgraded section either.

It happens. Simply swap the gift opening to late Christmas Eve, go to midnight mass since they’ll be too excited to sleep anyway, and wake up early for the airport.

I'm happy to help here.

First, your image still has the conf # on it (you'll spot it) so may want to use that marker a bit more .

Secondly, you are free to ask for a refund since the change is > 120 minutes. This wording is what AA has travel agencies use
quote:

If a schedule change is more than 120 minutes or flight cancelled, a refund of the ticket to the original form of payment (FOP) is allowed

If you still want to get to LA on American on christmas day, you can change to any flight you want. Granted, these will all include a stop. If it were me, I'd ask to connect through Miami just for the hell of it . Your best options are below but just know there are about 20 more. I would personally go with #4 or 5. 4 puts you on a 787 (great aircraft) where 5 lets you leave around noon.

1
8:07 AM
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport MSY
Travel time: 1h 48m
9:55 AM
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport DFW

4. This is what I'd pick

There's something else you'd need to do that and it's not even worth it at that point. MSY-LAX is usually about $100/person, you'd spend more on the change fees at $250/person so it wouldn't be worth it. Even if you cancelled the tickets, the refund goes straight back to his credit card

In any case, yeah Napolean should take down that image

mod did it for me.

I'm a sucker for direct flights though.

These tickets were $440 for four, with the upgrade to pick your seat/ have a carry-on.

Looking into the other options now.

Option 4 is $450 a ticket, more than we paid for four.

Leaving at 6pm there is a direct for $200, that simply doubles the cost. Return flight booked already and it's a decent time (Delta)

Going to talk it over. Just got rental car. Funny that a F150 is $250 a week cheaper than a Kia Rio. Of course the gas is $4/gal. Went with a BMW x3/Lincoln MKK for $509 for the week which was still less than a compact car.

Don't even look at the prices of those options! The whole point with a schedule change is AA can transfer your already valid ticket to any other flight. Even if it shows up as more expensive, there should be no additional costs to you.

Plan of action:

1. Decide on what flights you want (even if they show up as more expensive, ignore that)

2. Call AA. Tell them you noticed a schedule change for your flights on christmas day and that the newly scheduled time for your flight does not work for you. Ask if they can rebook you on AA 138 and AA 2437 as the time is much closer to your originally scheduled time. Feeding the agents the flight numbers will make their life much easier so I'd highly suggest you know the flight numbers you want before calling in.

3. If the agent says no, ask what your other options are. If you do not like what she/he has to offer, then politely say "Based on your information I'm going to need some time to think this over before committing to an option. Thanks taking your time to help me and once I know what my family would like to do I'll call back in". I would usually HUACA (Hang up and call again) immediately after if I had a bad agent, but its up to you

I'll try that. I actually like that option. Better departure and I've never flown in a wide body jet.

If the agent gives you any pushback, mention you're traveling with your family and the later start time is much preferable. I don't think you should have any trouble, but remember HUACA if you see the conversation isn't going in the direction you'd prefer. You're entitled to a refund if you want so you're the one with options here, not AA.

Also, when they rebook you on those flights, ask for them to assign you seats. Looks like rows 15-20 are all open and regular seating so they should be able to do 15H-L for free. If you ask nicely for seats not in the back, they may even throw in the extra legroom seats (rows 12-14) due to you now having to take a connection. Can't hurt to ask

ETA: The 787 really is nice. At least on international flights you feel much better stepping off the plane

I usually sit towards the back of the plane because everyone from the wings forward seems in a rush to get off, in the back you just take your time.

Talked it over, wife prefers layover with better arrival time and departure, rather than direct with bad departure or arrival. Our air-bnb isn't ready until 3. So arriving at 9:30 would give us too much time to kill.

Can I call any day time, or is it a Monday through friday 8-5 thing?
