So I am in the process of booking a flight from Houston to Brisbane in mid February. I have heard ANZ's premium economy is basically business class. Both Qantas and ANZ's price is nearly the same, but I can get get to Brisbane with one less layover (3 hours, on outbound and return) if I fly Qantas. I am currently leaning towards ANZ because I love airplanes and flying, and it seems to be a greater value. What do y'all say? Any experience with either of these premium economies? also either way I get to Brisbane at 7 am or 11 am two days after I leave Houston, and I'm defiantly not short on time, since I will be there for a few months! TIA

what aircraft for each airline?

a quick look on seatguru looks like both utilize a standard recliner seat (similar to a domestic first class seat).

Air New Zealand has 787s, do any of them fly this route? If so, that is the flight you need to take.

NZ flys the 777 from IAH to AKL. I don't know if they have their new premium economy on that aircraft.

If they do, book it. You're right it's basically what a business class seat was a few years ago on most airlines. Plus you get access to the premium check in and boarding.

Air New Zealand has the premium economy on their 777 models so your flight will have 41" pitch, 18.5" width. If you take the 747 on Qantas out of LAX it's 38" pitch, 19" width.

Personally, I like the 747 and they're on their way out the door for newer planes like the 787 so I'd go out of my way to ride on it once more. For the sake of being sane by the time you arrive, save yourself the double connection and stick with Air New Zealand. Only heard good things about that airline

AZ flies IAH-AKL on a 777-200 like 4-5 days a week.

QF flies DFW-SYD on an A380, service is daily.
