Here's the TSA page for getting through security

So they're good with TSA, I'd call United to confirm but it looks like you dont need to do anything special ID wise. Maybe bring their passport if they have one just in case?
Also just wanted to give you props for letting the kid go alone. I was flying solo at age 15 and it really helped my travel knowledge increase

TSA does not require children under 18 to provide identification when traveling within the United States. Contact the airline for questions regarding specific ID requirements for travelers under 18.

My 15yo and her friend recently flew together on Southwest as “young travelers”. TSA only asked to see her boarding pass, but I had her bring her learner’s permit so she gets in the habit of showing her ID at the airport. CuseTiger mentioned bringing a passport, which is also a good idea.
Since this was her first time flying without an adult, I did get a pass at the check-in counter to escort them to the gate.
Hope they have a safe trip!

The United unaccompanied minor threshold seems to stop at 14.

I flew alone the first time when I was 8 or 9. From Lake Charles to Baton Rouge on Eastern Airlines in a Convair 240.
I think we stopped in Lafayette on the way.
