Agree with those who are saying to cut a day from Venice and skip Pisa. If you can make it to the Amalfi coast one day, you won't be disappointed. I think Positano one of the most beautiful places in the world.

While in Florence, definitely do this...

I agree about the Amalfi Coast but Rome is his nearest stop and that's one hell of a daytrip.

Yeah, definitely not worth it for a "day trip." It's still several hours each way by train to Sorrento from Rome, then you have to get to the other side of the Peninsula, which can take hours depending on traffic. If you're going to the Amalfi Coast, it needs to be for a few days/week.

There are tours from Rome to Positano and Pompeii in the same day. We were thinking of going that route given the limited time. I realize more days are better, but wouldn’t it be worth seeing even if briefly?

Not to me. We also don't know your itinerary. If I wanted to see the Amalfi Coast I would cook a few days to stay there in my itinerary.

day trip to Milan from Venice

5 hours roundtrip is a lot of travel for a day trip.

Unlike a lot of posters, I enjoyed Pisa. And you can do it as a half day trip. It doesn't need a full day.

Venice is great but doesn't need 4 days. I would split that time between Venice and Verona, but I travel light and hustle. Some people may prefer a more relaxed pace.

I once did Pompeii as a day trip from Rome.

Rome to Positano would be a very long day trip. I love Positano and the Amalfi Coast but I think I would wait until I could spend a longer time there. We stayed a week in Positano and took day trips by ferry.

If you want to see it for 5 minutes, just look at a picture.

It's up to you, but that is a full day of travel and just not worth it to me to get limited time there.
