wireless router recommendation

Thinking about finally cutting the cord. Any recommendations for routers to replace the one from my cable provider. I remember seeing a post about this a while back with some discussion about what are legitimate functions vs. marketing but can't seem to find it. I would like to have at least 8 ports.
Current wireless needs include 2 thermostats, wink hub, 4 arlo, 2 ring, x box, multiple phones and tablets. Would probably be using Ethernet for 3 Tvs and wireless for 2.

How large is your house? Two story? How big is your budget? How many homes or apartments are close to you, like, real close?
If you don't have screaming internet service and devices that need the speed of an AC router, and are on a budget, this works: Asus RT-N66U
If you have lots of bandwidth coming in, perform lots of streaming, have lots of TV's going at the same time, are into serious gaming, then spend the dollars and get you a Synology RT2600AC.

House is about 3000 sq ft, but have a detached garage that wifi will need to reach for a tv. house is 1 story. I don't have close neighbors at all.

I don't do a lot of gaming at all. I would probably have 1-2 tvs most of the time. A third going sometimes.
In addition to the devices above, I also have and Echo and a couple of dots that use wifi also.

You may want to look at a mesh system for good coverage all over the house/garage.
linksys velop has the best specs currently but most expensive. Google wifi is a good value for a mesh system. both are 802.11ac compatible.
A standard router, the asus RT-AC68U is a good value as well.

The Ubiquiti Networks AP I linked earlier will Mesh with other like products. There are also slightly cheaper similar items and larger switches if needed

You are correct except the main difference is he doesn't have to pull ethernet cords for the ones I listed. If he already has them run or doesn't mind Ubiquiti is basically the best. I always assume people are not very technical or willing to pull wire.

ubiquiti ampliFI 3 piece set. for 3k sqft youll want a mesh system.

3 of the tvs already have Ethernet run to them. 2 will run via wireless. I would like 8 ports from the router if possible. 3 for the tvs, 1 for the computer, 1 for the arlo base, and I'd like to have a few options for expansion. When I upgrade my wink1 to a wink 2, I will need a port for that as well.

Switch with POE UniFi Switch 8 60W POE Access Point UniFi AC Pro
Explain this to me like I'm an 8 year old (probably bad example, an 8 year old would probably understand this)
The pro is only available in a 5 pack, do I need a 5 pack? Does the switch plug into the access point and that is what I use to connect the Ethernet connections?

It is usually available in individuals as well, it was when I posted the link. Apparently it sold out subsequently. Doubt you'll need 5. You do have a large house but I would think strategic placement would allow for coverage with 2, can't see you needing more than 3 depending on construction materials used in the house (meaning you have no rooms that are essentially metal boxes).
You may find them on Amazon , as well. You might also look at one of the other APs on their site
