How much would it cost to hire an electrician to install a whole home surge protector? I know nothing about this and was tasked to find out if there is such thing, how it would work, and what it would cost.

Richard Gray (local New Orlenian) has a company called Richard Gray's Power Company. He makes power conditioners, transformers, and protectors for the high end audio world, but also has things that can be installed at the fuse box as well.

They ain't inexpensive though!

Tots, I looked at a home on the north shore for an inventor that has a company that takes the electricity coming into the home and reduces peaks and valleys, he said by doing so it reduces the heat produced by electronics and saves energy. I can't remember the name of the company, perhaps someone will see this and know the name.

You'll spend more in labor than the device itself and its going to be the weak spot in the system so it will blow before anything else.

Your on the north shore right?

I work for an electrical contractor. Residential isn't really my thing, but I can ask. If you want to email me username@gmail, I can see what's all involved for you.

I was walking through Lowe's a few months back and they had them in a box marked $7. I should have grabbed more than one. The kind that take up a dual 50 amp and then attach to the bottom or side of your box. I have no idea if it works, but at $7 I could not pass it up.

That doesn't seem right to me unless they were trying to get rid of them. They usually run $100+. I have this one in my panel:

lol, I did really really good. That is the EXACT same one I have.

$7 dollars, they had like ten in a box, I'm kicking myself for not getting more. They just had them priced so low I thought they had to be garbage.

Eaton whole home surge protector.

Yellow tag $7. Same Lowes I bought a nearly new key start self propelled lawnmower for $39, because it had a (bad motor) turned out to be a $1 keyway on the crank.

Lowe's I love them for their incompetence.
