I’ve had an iPad 4th gen since they released (4ish years?). Has been a great machine, but with release of ios11, ipad4 will no longer receive iOS updates past iOS 10.3.3. Recently it has become slow and slightly glitchy. I’ve done several of the quick fix option such as freeing space, deleting apps, and turning off some functions. I can trade in for around $125 on gazelle or Apple, but was wondering if I keep for my kids, and keep apps minimal, will it just crap out within the year? Why would it be worth any money at all if so?

I’m assuming apps will be incompatible with older iOS going forward?? Anyone know the answers?

Damn I still have an iPad 2 and it works fine. I ONLY use it for browsing the internet though. I don't think I've ever updated it, because I'm convinced updates are used to brick older devices.

My mom was still using a first gen iPad (2010) till this past Christmas and it was doing ok.

I got her a new iPad Pro and expect it to last her a long time.

I had an original ipad mini (2012) up until November. Could only update to 9.3.5 and it would run a few apps just fine but was really starting to get slow. Apps started crashing more frequently so I got the latest model ipad.
