When the USA ordered all Americans working with computer chips in China to leave China, did they leave?

I'm asking this board because I know you guys would probably know someone in the field that "came home" from China. I didn't want to ask the OT or Political Board because I wouldn't get a straight answer. I'm just wondering if they actually left China. No political agenda here.

This is a lot more complex of a question than yes or no.

TSMC and Mediatek are the largest chip makers in the world and are Taiwanese companies.

Intel is an American company

Basically we are trying to get them all to create fabs here in the US. But you can’t just snap your fingers and get the same quality chips as a well established fab.

So the answer is kinda sorta but it’ll take a while before it matters. Decades.

Reports stated that a lot of the Chinese tech companies fired their US workers. So think it has the desired effect. However most of the world leaders in semiconductor fabrication are based out of Taiwan and not China, so they were unaffected.

Tsmc is building fabs now in the USA and Japan. ASML is based on the Netherlands.

The American fabs are on hold (and may not ever come to fruition) because of all the DEI crap the Dems put in the CHIPS Act. Basically if these companies want government subsidies, they have to hire a trans workforce and they are basically saying "no thanks" to that.
