I've never done it before. Is Hakchi the way to go?

Sell it and buy a Raspberry Pi and run Retropie. Don’t get the point of people buying these for other than a neat collectible.

Because my 5 year old uses it 90% of the time. It packs well and he plays when we travel.

So does a RPi, it’s even smaller and you can get a SNES case if you want. Then get some Bluetooth controllers and play almost any system before PlayStation and N64 generation. Some of those even work.
Get a short HDMI connector and you won’t even know it’s on the TV. Plus you get a Kodi box with it as well for movies and shows.

RPi
LINK
8bitdo are extremely nice Bluetooth controllers that work really well, but are pricey. Most USB controllers work and so do PS3 DualShock Bluetooth ones. Here is an example of a 8bitdo
LINK
Retropie download, there is instructions on how to flash it and how to load roms on it
LINK
You will also need a micro SD card, a hdmi cable or connector, and a Micro USB to power the raspberry pi.

I’m an idiot and there was a sticky on the gaming board and for $80 I built my own Pi with hundreds of games from different platforms
It’s fun

When using the raspberry, how many games can you typically hold on a 32gig card?

Every major US game system‘s entire USA library up to N64, PSX excluded.
PSX is where memory goes up since it’s CDs.

What site(s) do you use to get ROMs and have you ever had any issues with those sites?

I haven't used a site in a very long time. I was part of Underground Gamers years ago and got in on project hyperspin.
If you can still find the torrents, the project hyperspin group had assemble almost every known game for every system that you could emulate at the time including arcade. I still have an archive of most systems up until PSX. My mame library is pretty solid til early 00s as well.
Should be torrents out there with entire libraries though.

Hakchi2 with retroarch. I bought it too because of the collectable but then started playing a lot. So I hacked it and the nes classic I have. You can fit all of snes and nes roms on each. You will need to edit the run params in hakchi to --retroarch to get that enabled in game.
I have a few RPis which you can use as stated above if you haven't purchased the classic yet. Itd def the better way if you are considering which way to go.
Google nes rom collection, remove files with beta in it and copy over the us versions. Plenty of YouTube videos on it with hakchi2.
