I got barbecued earlier last year when I said google Glass would be a flop. I believe the release date was supposed to be late fall of last year...

So I say again... How fricking stupid is Google Glass?!

I'm just curious is the idea was scratched all together?! They pumped hundreds of millions into the R &D and even the marketing and nota it's a ghost town.

It's WAY ahead of its time and currently in beta stage

Still testing.

We've got a few pairs at work. The uses are still limited for the most part but it's really cool tech.

They are too expensive for what you get (only a few apps so far) for the general public.

Screw beta testing. I'm only interested if it passes my alpha test.

But he didn't really want to know what happened and is happening. He started the thread thinking people would congratulate him, apparently.

OP, Glass is far from dead. While the current incarnation will never be as common as cell phones, Glass is a development platform that is making the next generation of wearables possible.

Google knows what they are doing. They don't need you as a market analyst.

it is pretty awesome. if you are ever in SF or New York, go to one of the Google offices and do a test drive. It is one of those things that is:

1. ahead of it's time.
2. too expensive.
3. needs to be in the hands of hundreds of thousands of developers to really take off.
4. has more untapped potential than almost any consumer tech device that exists today

Google should've just taken the hit and did a giveaway of about 100,000 of those to developers at one point. It would make a huge difference.

Eh. You don't want to give away a faulty product and sour the future market.

I've seen 1 pair in NOLA, ever. I'm sure they're much more common in SF & NYC. The glasses are pretty cool, but limited as others have stated.

As more of our household appliances become wirelessly integrated, the glasses will increase in their utility.

well, normally developers have to buy a development kit for new hardware in order to develop for it. So, giving it away, because of the cost, would have put it in more developers hands more quickly.

“The growth of wearable technology is creating a new playing field for innovation,” said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. “Through our collaboration with Luxottica Group, we will unite our respective ecosystems and bring together Intel’s leading-edge silicon and software technology with Luxottica’s design innovation and consumer expertise. We expect the combination of our expertise to help drive a much faster pace of innovation and push the envelope of what’s possible.”

“This is an incredible opportunity for us to continue to innovate and further shape the future of eyewear,” said Massimo Vian, CEO of Luxottica Group. “Together with Intel, we will continue to develop the potential of wearables, expanding the limits of what eyewear can be. We’ll lead the change to create frames that are as intelligent and functional as they are beautiful. Products that consumers will love to wear.”

Outside of Google Search, Gmail, and Android Google seems to have had a ton of products not live up to the hype. Glass, Google+, Google Wave, Buzz, among others.
