Right. Again my machines are workstations too

The 7600k is a 4 core/4 thread chip, so you might as well get the 1300x for $100 cheaper.
And have a less single core, multi-core, and quad-core speed. Don't mention overclocking, both can be.
You got me on energy consumption though

And about the DIMM slots, it's actually cheaper to get 2x8gb sticks than it is to get 4x4. Both platforms run dual channel, so there's absolutely zero added benefit to the extra DIMM slots
I never argued it would be more expensive. I said it was a personal preference.

If you want to bring in future proofing, he can spend a whopping $10 more to get a mobo compatible with the 1800x (and it would come with M.2 too OMFG), so he can upgrade to that down the line if he wants to.
M.2 is pretty amazing tech. Not sure why you are being facetious.

Still a mediocre PC
Mediocre reply.
Sandy bridge chips were tShit back in 2011

It's more of a luxury item on budget builds because they likely wont be getting a M.2 drive anyway. I like them and use one on my PC, but I don't think they're necessary at all.

They still are the shite now. Have a 2600K in my plex server still chugging along at 4.3ghz. I was more giving you shite about your main PC

Wow something we agree on.
I would still prioritize a M.2 at this point at sale prices. Otherwise traditional SSD OS and HDD storage is cheaper.

Holy shite another thing we agree on. It took the 5930k to get me to budge from my Sandy bridge build.

I never come here. But had to.. just for the following.

The fact that you would link a motherboard with 2 channels says a lot.
Take this fwiw, during college I managed a computer department at the local best buy.
Thought it was trolling at first.. maybe not?

Eh, maybe I'll read through this thread later, but I've gotten to the point where I don't provide much input here anymore unless emailed or otherwise addressed directly. I skimmed the second page and it was a pretty entertaining dick measuring contest.

Because I had a vendor supported price of 200 bucks to buy it through Intel Retail Edge.
