New to the whole torrents and streaming via kodi 17.6. So far it's awesome and a bit addicting. As I read about the best and most up to date add-ons I keep seeing ads and side articles stressing the importance of and promoting some VPN (ipvanish, expressvpn, etc ) is this something I truly need ? If so, which would you guys recommend. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's the best practice to use one. Especially if you're streaming torrent files on Kodi. My ISP seems pretty lax but a lot aren't. If you're Comcast, Spectrum, or one of the other big ones I definitely would.

I personally use Private Internet Access. It's relatively cheap and they have a ton of servers. And it's easy to set up. Be prepared for your speeds to slow down though. Maybe just a bit, maybe a chunk just depending on traffic.

Just depends on their end. Think it kind of depends on how you connect to their servers. If you want to use torrents you have to use one of the servers that allows port forwarding. Which means Canada. My default is connecting through Toronto since it's closest.

with PIA, you can search for what hosts offer what speeds and then manually connect to them

Most vpns have an addon for firetv or whatever box you use. Before starting kodi you fire up that addon and your connection goes through the vpn server. Then when you are done streaming on kodi you can close the vpn connection so you aren't running through a slow vpn connection anymore. Netflix and some other big for pay streaming services dont allow you to use a vpn when watching their streams.I use Ipvanish and have been happy with it.

I have used ExpressVPN for nearly a month now and I haven't really noticed any slowing.

VPN is a waste of money if you’re just using Kodi. If you start actually “downloading” movies or music, then I would worry. However, if you’re just “streaming” through Kodi, nobody is going to bother you. Invest the money saved in Real Debrid and enjoy.

Got a letter from Spectrum the other day for streaming GOT. I was using Stremio, forgot to turn the VPN on

Use a VPN...PIA is cheap and works great for me.
