UPDATED WITH WORKAROUND (Nexus 6 suddenly not connecting to LTE WORLDwide..

On project FI, ATT, metro PCS and T-Mobile.
I thought it was just my phone yesterday until I started reading up on it. No I have never installed that pikeman crap either. Some towers worked yesterday but today I'm not connecting at all despite resetting Google connectivity services and rebooting phone. I don't have time to rekey APN info manually just so it will work for a couple hours then drop again.
Nexus 6 LTE mess
Read the comments at the bottom. It's not just T-Mobile.
Tried it on my N6 and LTE showed up immediately after uninstalling the updates.

Did you reset your APN?
Also download the app FiSwitch and manually switch to the other networks.
Weird that it's N6 only and not the 6P/5X too.

See above, I added some additional details. Manually rekeying APN is a temporary fix.

Not much else you can do, FiSwitch will allow you to manually force switch to any of the other networks and has a repair option, other than that sounds like you're screwed until Monday.
Maybe the August security patch screwed up the N6, if you updated yet.
Anything on XDA about it? Or are custom roms not having the issue?

I'm behind on updates because I'm rooted. Rumor is v7 doesn't have this issue so thinking of installing that.
Eta I guess that's a good baseline..I haven't updated my OS but can't say the same about apps.. lots of Google apps have updated in the last couple of days. Could be an issue in the maps update or something since there seems to be a correlation with GPS usage people are blaming on pikeman go
Eta further credence to my theory is when updating to Android 7 you won't immediately get all the Google app updates.. Or possibly the offending app is a different build on v7
Hmmmm $100 says this ends up being some core Google service that was recently updated and either Google acknowledges the issue or we see some random Google app update in a couple days and the issue disappears.
That's the only thing that's changed on my phone; doesn't make sense all LTE towers in the world changed.. Gotta be a software update Google pushed out.
I bet people with auto update off are the ones not seeing the problem.

Interesting indeed. Definitely seems like it's update related then, may very well be Maps.
Maybe delete data and cache and then uninstall anything that has updated in the last few days? Starting with the ones most likely to be causing it.
This part makes it seem like a TMO side issue, but leaves open the possibility it's not too.

reddit users dancing around the problem
After skimming that I'm more convinced than ever Google introduced this through some core service update and the reason APN reset works temporarily is that until the bad code is referenced again.. Definitely seems GPS related... The phone works for a hot minute then at some point it's disconnected again

Interesting. Definitely sounds GPS related from that topic.
If it was me I would try a different baseband, if you're on the latest one try flashing an older radio.
Doesn't sound like something a user can fix though unfortunately.

I'll just hang near wifi for now and let someone else figure it out

Intersting. I've noticed being on 3G a lot with my Fi Nexus 6 lately, along with losing signal completely. I have no idea what y'all are talking about in the rest of this thread though. I haven't updated the OS in a few weeks, and haven't installed any new apps recently.

Interesting. I'm on AT&T still, but planning to switch to Fi soon. I was considering switching to Fi about a month ago and keeping my N6 until later, but now I'm glad I didn't do that.

No problems for you on ATT right now?
Posted on 8/5/16 at 11:12 am to CAD703X
Not really. The only thing I've noticed is that here and there my coverage completely drops out, but only for a few seconds at a time and it's pretty sporadic. I just thought my phone was acting up since it's getting older and has taken a lot of drops (my N6 has been very rugged)

Mine has gone back to normal for about the last half hour with no change on my end.
ETA: Scratch that.

Google is recommending this fix for now
looks like it was an update to a google service that started the issue
who would've guessed that? Oh yeah..CAD
eta sorry, here's the link
LINK
ETA after uninstalling the updates, boom LTE showed up immediately.

I had seen that recommended, but it was only temporary for most.

i hadn't seen where they said to completely uninstall the updates. i had seen clear the cache, but not uninstall it completely.
since this came from google and not some redditor, i gave it more credence.
i will keep an eye on it and see if LTE drops again.
quote:
Several people have reported this issue as starting prior to the Aug security update rollout and with earlier build numbers. This is what lead me to suspect a services app, like Google Connectivity Services.
When I uninstalled the latest update of Google Connectivity Service, the version that I was now running was C.1.6.5 (2344360). Unfortunately I did not record the version that I uninstalled that seemed to be causing the issue.
So I went back and sideloaded the latest Android Security Update to see if the newer version and the problem reoccurred after the update. But the Google Connectivity version was still C.1.6.5 (2344360). And I could not replicate the problem. So it appears that the issue is not related to the Aug Security update, but rather an update of the Connectivity Services app that occurred a few days prior.
If I go to Google Play and check My Apps and the history of recently installed Apps, it shows that a version of Google Connectivity Services was recently sent to my device - its version was D.1.3.18 (2919676) for compatibility with Android N. I suspect this is the problem.
furthermore

I work for T-Mobile and I have run into this issue with multiple phones today. The APN settings were changed without the customer doing so. We performed a cancel location and reset the APN settings and it was working. Then, 20 minutes later, a customer that had come in earlier and we "fixed" the issue but the issue has come back. The APN settings reset again and issue came back.
APN Name was changed to T-Mobile GPRS when they should be T-Mobile US LTE
MMSC was wiped completely
APN type changed and was just default, supl - leaving out the mms
maybe the updated connectivity services app is fricking with the TMO APN?

I'm not on TMO, so mine is a little different. LTE connectivity only drops for me for about 20 seconds when an app that uses GPS is opened. After that, LTE and GPS both work fine until the app is closed and reopened.

first world problems

So does forcing it to switch to Sprint or US Cellular not work either even though it's a TMO issue apparently?
*#*#34777#*#*
Type that in the dialer to force a switch to Sprint.
