I thought you said you had your original cable / direct tv coax already ran through the walls. if that is the case, just go in the attic, unplug the coax and screw it into the antenna.

Correct the original cable coax is already ran through the walls. But that also carries the internet signal from Cox, so I still need that line to come in from outside and hit my modem out of the wall. Is it possible to use a splitter to "combine" the antenna coax with the original cable line from outside (within the attic), so that it provides both antenna/internet over 1 coax coming out of the wall?

Ahh..no I wouldnt split it. You should try and fish a new line. You could probably use your existing COX Internet line..just make sure you tie it down so you don't lose it in the wall.

If I have it right, you are saying that the cable comes into your attic and connects to a splitter that then feeds it to the rest of the house? If so, take the line that goes to your router/modem, disconnect it from the splitter, and connect it to the cable coming from outside with a barrel connector. The run a cable from the attic antenna to the splitter that contains the cables for the rest of the house. That's how I have mine set up.

That's correct.

So basically, this would make the line from outside go directly to the modem/router after going through the attic. And the antenna would sit in the attic and feed to a splitter that then goes to the different rooms of the house?

It sounds pretty good, I just would like to have 2 lines coming into living room - 1 for router (centralized location of house) and 1 from antenna for the living room TV. Thanks for the info.

Is your router and TV currently in your living room?

Yes. I guess I could take the line from outside that goes into the attic, and then drop a new coax from there to a modem/router that is mounted to ceiling? And then use the existing splitter to distribute antenna signal throughout the house using existing lines.

How does the line coming into your living room get to the router and TV at the same time? Is it split again after it comes out the wall into your living room?

That's how it has been since we decided to put the router there for a more central location in the house. Now that we have the Fire TV and have axed cable, I got rid of that splitter and the coax goes directly into router.

I see. Going the route you mentioned by running another coax to a router mounted to the ceiling will work, just keep in mind you will need a power source to plug the router in. If it's feasible, I would just drop another coax down the same wall that already has cable. One outlet would be for the router and the other for the antenna.

Hopefully I can figure that out without aimlessly poking holes in the ceiling/wall trying to make that work

You can buy a dual coax plate with 2 screws and put that on replacing your single one. Won't have to cut holes in the wall.

Fishing a new line is your best bet.

So just drop a new coax line from the antenna/splitter in attic down in the same spot as the existing coax?

Thanks for the help, it sounds simple enough for me to do so I'll just have to give it a shot. Expecting to pick up all local channels no problem once antenna is in the attic.

Maybe you should bring up a small tv and test it out before you kill yourself running a line

I went online and found a site that showed where all of the TV broadcasting satellites are located. In the New Orleans area they are mostly located in the New Orleans East region. It gave a compass direction of 80 degrees east. When installing my antenna in the attic, I used a compass on my phone and pointed it towards 80 degrees east and bingo! I have around 34 HD stations.

I'm having trouble understanding something. I have a couple of cable outlets, or maybe all of them, that go from the direct tv stuff that is hooked up on the side of my house to the outlet. My house is lifted so it all just runs under the house.

Is there an antenna i can get to hook up outside? Or should I put it in the attic and run the cable from the antenna to the current splitter situation on the side of my house and from there it should go to all tvs...

How many TVs are you trying to hook up to the antenna & more importantly do any of those run into cable internet (if you use cable for your service provider)
