Better off waiting for the Pro to come out since the Long Range is pretty useless and the Pro will be much better spec'd
from everything i have read the 6LR is basically a 6 Pro hardware wise. What makes you think they will have a 6Pro?

$149 in early access. It could be higher/lower in general release but I believe the price generally stays the same

Those should sell like hot cakes.

I give ubiquiti shite for their stupidly overpriced switches and dream machine pro, but they can't be beat when it comes to APs

Yea you get that hard Apple tax with anything Ubiquiti besides their APs. I guess we can call it the UniFi tax

Great WebGUI, somewhat limited depth though, but if you go all in on the system it's pretty seamless and you can get a pretty solid "enterprise" setup

I get that some of their stuff might be (or seem) overpriced, and maybe it's the fanboy in me but most of it seems justified. I don't think the UDMP is overpriced at all. Even if you don't use all of its features (Protect, etc), it's still a very capable router and firewall with an 8 port managed switch. They keep moving them, so how overpriced could it be?

Now excuse me while I install the latest beta that just dropped for my overpriced Protect systems.

I guess it's the oversimplified plug and play aspect that makes it consumer friendly. Pretty dumbed down so almost anyone can use it. No CLI or virtualization to have to deal with.

You can build some pretty capable pfsense boxes with an 8port POE gig switch+SFP for probably half the price of UDMP and have far more capability, but that requires a little bit of learning (virtualization and pfsense + whatever CLI for the switch)

I don't mean to get into an argument over it, but I wouldn't really equate the added cost of a plugnplay appliance vs DIY to the apple tax. I think even the cheapest box from netgate, for example, is about $200, then you have to add a managed switch to that.

I just try to imagine Apple putting out a similar network appliance. Do you think it would cost less than $1k?

Man I don't know, you have more hands-on with those than I do.

I'm pretty sure that the LR received some kind of hardware upgrade from EA to GA, so some information about them on forums and whatnot may not be accurate.

Do wifi 6 devices have better "sending" then wifi 5? The AC-LR was a pretty useless purchase because most devices could connect to the LR from range, but couldn't retrieve data. I assume the wifi 6 is similar

i had a LR before and i agree, the LR feature is all device dependent. yes your device can hear the AP but most didnt have the transmitter strong enough to talk back. So idk that the deal is with wifi 6. I got these because prior to seeing or hearing about the wifi6Pro, the wifi6LR was touted to be the wifi5pros equivalent in wifi6. I guess they were wrong. if i can snag up a pro on presale im going to.
