So if we have had DirecTV for about 7 months, is there any way to upgrade to these new boxes without paying a bunch of money?

I love the picture on DirecTV, but the genie boxes are super slow... My main box is fine, but all the remote ones take like 5 seconds to change a channel.

If it's a fiber connection you do not have to worry about distance. Vrads are only used on fttn connections not fttp. When using fiber the distance is irrelevant. Everyone connected to the pfp is capable of getting the same speeds.

As far as streams go you only get 6 on fiber, not 12.

Most customers I have installed DirecTV for have told me they feel the picture quality is noticeably better compared to what they had with Cox or even Uverse.

What I'm actually curious about is picture quality overall for each LIVE TV service. Right now I think it goes in this priority:

1) DirecTV (think they broadcast in true 1080i)
2) OTA TV Tuner/Antenna
3) A bunch of streaming services

For example for #3, I'm pretty sure YouTube TV and others are now broadcasting most/all LIVE TV Channels with 1080p signal at 60fps. I just don't know which LIVE TV services do not offer 1080p at 60fps.

Anyone know?
