Also, Google is way more focused on software then hardware to showcase their services and leverage their AI.
then why did they make an entire spectacle of their design process during their keynote? The Pixel 3 XL has to be up there with the most horrid phone designs of all time
All three of the Pixel's have had mediocre and lazy designs.

But not because of its chin with front facing speakers, which is what we are discussing.
The deep notch is a completely different topic.

Can you link me to the design spectacle you are speaking of? I watched the entire keynote. It was mostly the camera and software.

The Nexus phones do not count in my mind. Who designed the Nexus phones? Who is designing the Pixel Phones? Well the nexus phones were designed in house by the Android team for the use of development of the Android software. The Pixel phones are designed by the Google hardware department which is new from a few years ago headed by former Motorola CEO Rick Osterloh. This team is on their THIRD phone and just acquired 2,000 HTC engineers last year to help. Samsung cares pretty much only about hardware - they do not even make the software on their phones, Google does. Apple is ahead in hardware design right now yes as they have years more experience and even their own custom chip sets.

you can look it up yourself. It was when their design team had their little fluff piece about them playing with curves and colors.

Oh ok so a 30 second clip from their design meetings about all their products. I understand people expect more but I think they are way more focused on AI and software and use the hardware as a way to showcase that.

Why not?

And they did a great job designing every phone they made. The Nexus 6P was a masterpiece.

And all three of their phones look like crap. Essential only made ONE phone and it's better than anything the Pixel team has made so far.

Yea and that is your personal opinion. I think they don't look as good as the iPhone X but i also think they probably look a lot better in person than they do in the pictures as many of the reviewers have said. The Nexus phones were influenced a lot by who manufactured them (HTC, Huawei, LG, etc.)

Google is Google, technically they don't "make" any of them as HTC and LG have made all of the Nexus and Pixel phones minus the one Motorola N6.
The Pixel's have had ugly arse two tone rears every gen along with pretty terrible displays, and now they add a huge arse notch and a big chin while the competition offers superior design/display/sound.
The Pixel 3XL is a disaster, their social media pages are littered with thousands of hate replies/memes and the tech media has been bashing it over and over since the leaks started.
Hell media sites/forums tried to bring hope of a Pixel 3 Ultra surprise reveal just because of how bad the 3XL is.

Pixel 1 was manufactured by HTC, Pixel 2 was HTC, Pixel 2 XL was LG.
The 3 and 3XL are the first ones that are done in house and manufactured by Foxconn, and everything they changed is somehow worse.

I like them, although they never get seen if you use a case like I do.

pretty terrible displays
disagree. They're not Samsung displays but they aren't terrible by any stretch.

The notch sucks for sure.

The notch is a disaster but the phone actually has a lot of great going for it like best camera and best software on the market. The pixel 3 will probably be more popular than the 3xl since it has all of the same features except battery and screen size but without a notch.

That happens every year. That's nothing unique to the 3xl.

I thought the Pixel 2 was plagued by a blue tint issue that was never fixed? I remember reading about that many times and on here too with the general consensus being that the display sucks.

the pixel 2 was not. that was a pixel 2xl issue that was completely overblown. I've had the phone for a full year and have never noticed it. I think it's noticeable if you look at the phone from the extreme side.

yeah but the in house hardware team designed these and were not influenced by HTC, LG like the Nexi were. And yeah Foxcon built these so im hoping they are built even better than the last ones. The displays on these are really really good according to the reviews.

Outside of the notch these seem like the best phones that Google has ever made....and will be able to compete with anyone on build quality and will probably beat anyone when it comes to software and will definitely beat every other cell phone camera.
Depending on the battery life, performance, and other real world measurables that we don't know yet this has a chance to be a top 3 phone on the market for sure even with the notch.

Yeah that is pretty much my point and i think they will continue to improve on the hardware side.

I wanted badly to sick with the Pixel line. I'm on the OG Pixel and looking to upgrade. Horrible, ugly design, 4gb of RAM, and $800 is driving me away. The only saving grace of Pixels now is the camera, and I just need a serviceable camera.. OP6Ts looks like my next phone. Although Galaxy S9s are around the same price
I don't care how good their RAM management is, in 2018 it's time to worry about longevity for any phone with 4Gn of RAM.
I rarely use the speakers on my phone. Very, very rarely. Front facing speakers means nothing to me, and I'd argue that's be the case for the majority.

hope google never changes their design. Everyone who is pushing for 100% screen ratio at a high cost to speakers are on the wrong track.

iPhone XS Max -> 4GB RAM
Galaxy s9 -> 4GB RAM
Galaxy Note 9 -> 6GB RAM (but it runs a shite ton of Note Bloat)
These are all basically 2018 flagships.
4GB of RAM is not a concern especially in pure Android phones with no "skin".

And I believe they should all have more, minus the note9.
