re: Those opposed to data centers I want your views please

I’m not opposed to data centers. I use the internet constantly and use AI tools like ChatGPT regularly, so I understand that all of this requires real infrastructure somewhere.

My concern is more about how and where they’re built. If a data center is going to consume enormous amounts of electricity and water, receive tax incentives, and put additional demands on local infrastructure, then the community should know exactly what it’s getting in return.

I’d want transparency on power and water requirements, who pays for any needed infrastructure upgrades, noise and location impacts, permanent jobs created after construction, and the actual tax benefit to the community.

So I’m not NIMBY just because it’s a data center. I just don’t think “we need data centers” should automatically mean communities should accept any deal placed in front of them.
