Thinking about Tablo networked DVR

Anyone been using one of these? What’s your experience been like? Any problems? I’d be using it with the Roku interface. Do you recommend it? 2 or 4 tuner?

use it w/ a Roku and its fantastic. Without a doubt makes cutting the cord much easier.
Don't forget you need a USB drive for DVR storage unless you buy a newer one that has it built in (think they sell that now)

I bought a four-tuner version over a year ago. Overall, my family likes it quite a bit. If you only want to watch live TV, simply buy the Tablo box and start watching. If you want advanced recording features, I recommend that you purchase a Tablo subscription for $5/month. The only problem I found was that the tuner isn't the strongest I ever used. If you get a strong signal from each of the stations you want to watch, you are golden. Otherwise, you may want to upgrade your antenna first.

An alternative to consider that people on this board seem to like is Plex. This is a home media server that you run on a PC and it has the ability to hook an antenna up to your PC and DVR/Stream OTA channels.

Thanks for the responses. I glanced at Plex and it looks like it adds a couple extra layers into the process. I would rather have a device that is basically plug and play. I am less and less interested in spending time maintaining a media server and more interested in things just working. I guess that’s what happens when you get old.

You should also look at the different streaming TV services. I think most of them have at least 1 of the local channels and a few have more. Someone mentioned YouTube TV has 3 BR locals in a recent thread here. You may find that a Tablo may be pointless in another year or 2 as more local stations get added by the streamers. And I'm not saying don't get it if it fits your needs now, I'm just saying the potential short term usefulness for the cost is something else to factor in.

Taking PSVue for a test ride currently. YouTubeTV is next up. Neither have all the locals. None of the streaming services do. I’m willing to pay for something that may be unnecessary in a couple years. It is still cheaper than Cox TV. The way I am looking at it, the Tablo would take local/network channels completely out of the equation when looking at OTT service. It would simply be a matter of who can get ESPN and SECN to me (and a few other channels for the rest of the family) at a reasonable price.

I have a Tablo, and that was exactly my thought process. My locals are covered forever with no monthly fees, and I went with Sling because that was the cheapest way to get ESPN/etc.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on Amazon this morning. Should be here Thursday.

I have the 4 channel Tablo.
Every TV in my house is on a FireTV with PSVue, Tablo for locals, Netflix, and Amazon.
It works really well. The only thing is you will need to USB drive connected or you won't be able to record, rewind, pause, or watch on 2 separate TV's.

Im using plex with a Tuner in my computer for OTA and DVR. It does require plex pass which is like 5 bucks a month but there is a lifetime for 150 or so, and plex isnt going anywhere.
Only issue i have is Plex outputs the OTA feed in a format my Amazon fires dont handle well. Works great on phones and rokus but not my AFTV. Kinda made about that but plex is supposedly fixing it.

Just as a follow up. Got the Tablo 4 tuner in yesterday and set it up with a 1 TB hard drive. Set up was a piece of cake and it works really well. Takes a few seconds to tune but nothing we can’t live with. So far, really glad I bought it.

Yeah. Kinda pissed I didn’t know about it a year ago. Would have dumped Cox much sooner.
