I bought a definitive technology center channel with a built in subwoofer in it. My question is when I’m setting it up with my receiver on the configuration, do I put none under subwoofer since it’s not a dedicated sub or “use”?

What model speaker is it?

Def tech usually has a setup card with the speaker to tell you how to setup the HT settings and hook it up

If you set the sub option to none most of the time that just means the amp will send a full range of sound to all speakers. You can then go in an set the crossover frequency for each speaker where you want it according to speaker size. Most receivers have some variation on these options.

Depending on which model you have you mostly likely need to come out the subwoofer output on the receiver and into the LFE input on the speaker. Turn on the subwoofer in the receiver set up.

I have a pair of Def Tech Mythos ST-L with built in subs and they go low with just speaker wire connections.

OP, There should be instructions in the box. If not, just google the model and find the user manual. You’ll probably have to set the crossover to 40hz, but I believe you can get away without using LFE from the sub out.

I'd be interested in this too. But my initial thought is to just set that speaker to large in the setup.

It’s the definitive Technology ca-9060 I think. Thanks for the replies, going to read the manual tomorrow.

You can, you just lose a little bit of control.

That speaker has a power plug and an input for the subwoofer so you would hook it up like a normal sub

Look at the paperwork it will tell you what settings to use

Manual says you can hook up just the speaker wires and adjust Receiver to large speakers no sub

Or you can hook up the LFE cable and set receiver to sub at 80hz for a starting point

Damn. I honestly didn't know that those types of speakers existed

I'd be curious to see a response curve for it. Of course from a footprint standpoint it's smaller than center and stand alone sub, but only rated down to 32 Hz. If I had my druthers, if I had $700 to spend I'd probably break it out $300-$400 on a good center and $400 on a stand alone sub from SVS.

I got this one for 550, happy with it so far. Thanks for the help! I have it setup with just speaker wire right now but plan to look more at it this weekend
