They always advertise during college football Saturdays and I made the jump and I totally regret it.

As one small example if you follow the instructions they have you put in your Sim card first and then activate via website. Wrong you cannot access the Internet with an unrecognized Sim card so those instructions should be reversed. The cuts of the actual Sim cards had too much plastic to fit perfectly into the slide so I had to cut those out....And then they also say they handle all the porting and the vice lacking from your prior carrier which THEY DON’T. Basically I have to stick with them while waiting a couple weeks until AT&T unlocks my device. So I will be without a phone for three weeks.

I have been with Mint for a little over a year now. Started with the 3 month promo with no problems. Then went to the 1 year $300, 10GB per month plan and have had no problems. No coverage problems in the areas that I live/work. Started off using iPhone 5s and upgraded to a new Pixel 1 a few months ago. No problems with either phone. My sim card was fine. Did not port, just got a new number so I can't comment on that process. Everything else has been flawless for me.

I tried mint mobile, along with about 30 other companies. It's the worst one I've ever experienced. It might even be worse than FreedomPop and FreedomPop was completely free!

I am not familiar with Mint Mobile but...

They can provision the card to access the internet but only their activation site. That's probably what they've done, but you wouldn't know that since your phone is locked to AT&T anyway.

They absolutely have to port the number by law. Porting always works as a "pull" initiated by your new carrier to get the number from your old carrier.

As for device unlocking that always has to be done by the carrier that it's locked to. So it's not Mint Mobile's fault that AT&T won't unlock your phone.

But as a company whose new customers will most likely come from AT&T or Verizon - they should make the transition as seamless as possible, this includes guiding people on how to close account with prior carrier first. Their game is to sign-up new customers and let them deal with the unlocking headache on their own because now that their new customer has canceled prior carrier, they have no choice but to stick with Mint. It's shady sh7t.

I'm trying Mint now for my kids phone. Coverage is very spotty. I have another month on the 3 month promo. The price is good but no service in my house means a non-renewal.

Sorry, it's really your responsibility to make sure your device is unlocked before you decide to transition to a new carrier.

Right there on the website as you sign up it says:

quote:

How do I know if my phone is unlocked?

If you’re on a prepaid or pay-as-you-go plan, your phone is probably unlocked; however, if you’re on a two-year contract or something similar, your phone is probably carrier-locked until you finish paying it off. The most reliable way to determine whether or not your phone is unlocked is by calling your current carrier and asking them to verify your phone’s status. You will most likely need to provide your account password (if applicable) and your phone’s IMEI number. You can find this on most phones by dialing *#06# on your keypad.

Phones need to be unlocked prior to activating your Mint Mobile service.

Did you do this? If not, then you weren't following directions, so this is your frickup. If you did, and AT&T told you it was unlocked, then it was AT&T's fault, not Mint's.

This is all pretty run of the mill stuff for changing carriers...

I've had Mint for about 4 months now. I'm very happy with them, though they did have some growing pains over the last month they documented in their Reddit forum. They gave me three free months for my trouble, which was actually nil. They've now got Visual Voicemail and automatic APN setup on the iPhone, which they didn't have when I signed up. They've got everything my free year of Sprint had, except their service (T Mobile) actually works. I have decent data speeds in my neighborhood and inside buildings like Costco and restaurants, where Sprint had no data service at all. Happy customer. Oh, and the porting from Sprint was immediate and trouble-free when I did it. Should be getting back to that way again.

I’m not on any installment plan and I pay as I go and changed carriers the same day as last payment. I don’t owe as much as a dime in proration.
Another inconsistency. When share my device model it says the performance will be fair but consider upgrade. In other spot it asks for emei number and says “Your phone is pretty boss and will receive our fastest data speed—4G LTE! ...
I’m out it’s crap I’m returning it

That's probably for the better. As evidenced in your posts in this thread, this seems to be beyond your technical expertise. Might want to stick with one of the big 4 who can do everything for you.

Your phone was locked as collateral by AT&T due to you financing it through them and you agreed to this yet somehow you believe it is some other companies responsibility to take care of it for you?

My goodness, God speed and good luck at life

Moron I did not finance it through them. And I have zero balance. That is my entire point
