Starlink prices going up an additional $10 in some areas

And down in others. Wasn’t the entire point of Starlink to provide affordable, reliably fast internet to rural areas?

I'm not sure what your point is here. Inflation has gone wild the past year and everything is getting more expensive.
Do you expect them to eat these increase costs? A company that is not even profitable yet?
$90 - $120 a month for high speed internet in rural locations is insanely cheap when you consider the tech you are using.

Areas with "excess capacity" refers to those rural areas.
Starlink RV went up to $150/month, and that's still a bargain.

i guess that's to help pay for the "free" internet in the ukraine.

Not for long. The small ISP startups are starting to flood the rural areas with fiber and they almost all start around $40-$50/mo.

I live in an extremely rural area and Starlink still considers me to be in a "Limited Capacity" zone and my price is increasing.
Starlink is still the best option for me. However, I feel kind of lied to based on the selling points that were pitched initially. It was marketed as good high speed internet with no data cap and relatively affordable while hinting at increasing speeds in the future.
After about 10 months of having Starlink:
- The price has increased by 20% and speeds are the same as when first installed. (Speed actually dropped by nearly half for a long time but picked back up a couple of months ago)
- There is now a 1 TB data cap.

Where do you live that's "extremely" rural, but still considered "Limited Capacity?"

All of which still apply.

You left off the rest of my statement. The context is important.

Starlink was never supposed to be for everyone. It does fill in a huge gap and as can be seen by what is going on in ukraine the government is going to write them a blank check

The closest town to my house is a 15 min drive and has a population of 400 people. Have to drive 45 mins each way just to get to a Walmart.

There’s a 1 TB cap now. Or at least they throttle at 1 TB where as they had no limit when I signed up.

How are you limited capacity then? Is that Walmart in a large city?

Right, so if you use up 1TB doing things like streaming 4k all day or hosting, you're going to get dialed back so others can also use it. What speeds are you throttled to?

I had put my $99 deposit with Starlink down a good year plus before it was even available at my address. Waited... waited ...waited. Received an email about price increase of roughly $100 on equipment to $600 (but I was grandfathered there at $500) and monthly would be $120. About that time they finally started running fiber optic up my way.
Long story short, I canceled my Starlink reservation.

Anyone know how to tell which type your area is considered to be?

No idea. According to Starlink's map link I'm in the light blue area where Starlink is available to new users without a waitlist. Which is supposed to mean that those areas have excess capacity. But my price is still going up for being in an area with limited capacity.
I haven't heard of anyone's bill going down. I think it's basically BS and they're just increasing the price on everyone.

I hear ya. Tangipahoa parish did a grant and Spectrum fiber is going parish wide, even in the most rural areas.
My property borders Tangi but they are not crossing parish lines so I’m still Starlink dependent.
Even at $120, it’s still cheaper than the Viasat package I had.

Where did you hear this OldCat55 ?
Will it be symmetrical fiber speeds for Spectrum ?
Hopefully this gives AT&T Fiber out here competition.

I’ve had a pending project with Spectrum for a while. I know there’s been a few government grants and infrastructure funding coming down the pipe, so I think they’re waiting for the government to pay for it. It’s frustrating as all hell.

It went down $10 for me in AK

Been on the waiting list since February of 2021 in Alabama. I was on the list in the first few hours after it opened up.
Still waiting….
Still waiting….

I heard it from a Spectrum tech. I didn’t give much credence to it at the time.
A month later, crews were out laying orange coated cable. They would stub them up at creeks for another crew to make the cross creek connection. Also, I have several friends in the north end of the parish that have Spectrum now. They are in an area only serviced by satellite 3 months ago.
A lady that works in my wife’s business told her she was supposed to have Spectrum installed by mid March.
I don’t anything about mid to lower parish experiences. However, the tech said it was parish wide and not crossing parish lines.
Edited to say:
I’m not sure on any speed issues with this project. I do know they listed 1/2 gig for residences and 1 gig (top end) speeds for businesses when I checked package prices for a rural Kentwood address.
