Spectrum internet issues.

I am on the 1000gb plan and sometimes I actually get that, but then it will slow down to practically unusable levels. My modem and router are in a cabinet in my living room. Should I move them outside the cabinet? It has a mesh front on the doors. I also had this problem with Vexus prior to switching over.

What speed do you get direct wired?

I don't think I have anything direct wired.

The only true way to know your connection speed is a wired connection. I would suggest connecting a laptop (if it has a ethernet jack) or a phone/computer using a ethernet dongle.
Then test again with the cabinet closed. If there is a vast difference in speed between the two situations then relocating your router outside of the cabinet will be beneficial. If not, there are other issues at hand.
For example, if your neighbors router is using the same channels as your router, you can get interference which slows down both networks. Any WIFI analyzer app for your phone should tell you what both you and your neighbors are using.

Get rid of the spectrum router, it's a piece of shite. You have to use the modem but you can connect any router to it. I use deco and their app is real simple to set up and it will analyze to see if your neighbors are using the same Wi-Fi channels. I pay for 1 GB and routinely get 998 through Ethernet and low 900s through Wi-Fi.
