Well damn that's a deal. That's cheaper than I can buy it direct from SONOS. You should jump on that, or at least share the link with others here that are looking to buy.

how hard is it to go to amazon, look up the play 5 speaker then hit the 'used and open box' link?
i always shop amazon warehouse first. always. there's no downside.

should have bought normal speakers and put them in the wall/ceiling.

I don't use Amazon because it's a scam. I buy from EBay.

not quite ready for that. with a 2yo i think the better value is a good speaker we can take out onto the screened porch, into the living room or pool room or even the bedroom with us.
a traditional system will still require wired hookups and some type of AVR and not prepared to go down that road again yet.

i checked there first like i always do. too popular on ebay. couldn't get the same deal there.

no, you read that correct. i plan to buy a couple of play 3 speakers as well eventually but i thought i'd get the cadillac main speaker first.

Let me know when you push one button "watch movie" (or say) and your screen drops down out the ceiling, your projector turns on, bluray on, AVR comes on to the exact volume, lights dim, shades roll down, the thermostats goes to your favorite movie temp, and the movie starts playing.
For the 100th time I don't sell C4.
Congrats on your SONOS purchase. I look forward to your future threads about how dumb the product is.

you mean what my logitech remote did 10 years ago?

check and i don't have shades in my tv room but when the motors come in, those will roll down each afternoon when the sun starts coming in and then back up after it sets. my hue lighting actually changes color in addition to dimming when we're watching tv.

an awful lot of time spent on what happens when you want to watch a movie.

do you have anything else besides a bunch of triggers for tv watching to make your case? seems like a pretty one-dimensional home automation scenario.

Sure. Welcome , goodnight, sexy time, entertainment, away, party, pool party commands. The options are endless depending on the homeowner. But I've been through all this with you. You don't understand. You don't get anything outside of your bubble.
Have a good day buddy

you saying i dont have those? how are your commands getting executed? clicking on an expensive tablet? that's not automation. voice? you running it through alexa or home like everyone else?

Bro you are getting scammed. You bought a Play 5 brand new for less than half its msrp from a seller with one rating

CAD,
I've always found your threads informative and appreciate them but you think you know more about automation and control than you actually do know. For instance.
No, it did not. That seemingly simple task requires two way communication (aka feedback) and 10 years ago that meant RS-232 control which was hard-wired. Logitech did not support two way communication and to the best of my knowledge it still does not support two way communication. It's a dumb remote. It's a dumb remote that does a lot of lot of things but at the end of the day it's still a dumb remote.

i'm going to go out on a limb here and dig up my harmony because i'm 99% sure the Onkyo came on at a set volume when i hit the little macro button it that turned everything on.
maybe it was coming on in an attenuated state, and i'm happy to eat my words if i'm wrong..but i'm almost POSITIVE it set the volume as part of the sequence that changed the HDMI port, flipped the tv on, etc etc.
eta i remember with pride how i set my remote up to turn on CC in DISH. the menu option was so BURIED that it took like 30 steps and i had to have a "part 1" and "part 2" button on my remote to get it to completely go through it.
it was still worth it though, because i could never remember exactly how navigate all the menus, etc. to turn on CC so 2 button presses was still far easier even though i had to sit there and watch it go through each step.

It would have come on at an Onkyo predetermined volume level. The Harmony remote did not have the ability to see that the volume was at 12 and tell the Onkyo to adjust to 20 (as an example).
