I have the Philips Hue bulbs, strips, dimmers, and hub. Love the control, but the connectivity is really terrible. I will frequently be unable to turn on/off the lights via the Hue app or from the Philips dimmer switches I have.

Is this a function of the Philips hub? Are there better hub options that are more dependable?

I prefer the Huemote app over the Philips Hue app. Much less of a hassle for me. If other apps present you the same issue, it may be a network issue. Every now and then, I’ll have at least 1 bulb that shows “unreachable”. I haven’t figured out why though, cuz at other times, it shows to be “reachable”.

Pretty sure Hue only works if you have their bridge regardless if you use another hub to control them. Look into changing the zigbee channel in your bridge. Sounds like there could be some interference going on.

It's a hub that connects everything regardless of tech. You use it in conjunction with the hue hub to work with other products.

Have the same thing. Pretty nice dev community too where people write open source code you can add to your smartthings hub.

Makes it really flexible.

I control my lights, door locks, ecobee and cameras (to an extent) with it.

The best thing about it is the routines. For instance, when I run my goodnight routine, it shuts off the lights, locks the front door, turns my camera system on and adjusts the ecobee.

Where I run the good morning, it adjusts the lights to 20% dinner and adjusts the ecobee for day time.

I'm adding a garage door controller to it soon too.

Pretty cool stuff.

If you check slick deals, they usually have them for around $50

Yet it only connects to a select few of their own TVs

Couldn't you just get a wifi enabled smart plug and go that route instead of dropping the $50 for the Hue bridge?

If I'm not mistaken, the Hue bridge is required in order to be able to operate the Hue light system. I don't quite understand what you mean by your question.
