Should I switch to Windows 10 from 7?

When I restarted my computer a couple days ago I got a message to update to Windows 10 by 7/29. I didn't think my computer could even do it.
A couple questions: if I get that message does that mean my computer can for sure do it?
And more importantly, should I just stick with 7? Is it going to be difficult for me to get used to 10? I work constantly on my computer don't need to have issues while I'm with a client.
I found this year old article and wonder if it's the way I should think about it and just get 10 when I eventually get a new laptop?

2. Ain’t broke, don’t fix The old adage comes from painful experience -- and it’s as applicable now as it ever was. If you’re using Windows 7, and it’s properly patched up and working for you, and you’ve stopped using Internet Explorer, you really have to consider whether it’s worth the effort to upgrade to Windows 10. Few programs will run on Windows 10, but not Windows 7. The only major ones I can think of, aside from a small handful of touch-centric programs, are Cortana and Edge, both of which come baked into Windows 10. If you’re using Windows 8.1 with a mouse and you’re OK with the interface (there must be a dozen of you), Windows 10 may be more trouble than it’s worth. In either case, carefully consider whether the warning signs listed here outweigh the benefits in "10 reasons you should upgrade to Windows 10," for you, in your situation. It’s entirely reasonable to hold off until you get a new machine, with a camera that can run Windows Hello, and a touchscreen.

Yes

I'm upgrading my 6-year-old laptop from 7 to 10 right now. I've had 10 on my desktop for almost a year. Yeah, it's a little different, but people really shouldn't be afraid of different. Different isn't always better, but Windows 10 is better. And it's not the OMGsoScaryDifferentThereforeitsucks experience that the first 30 seconds of Windows 8 was.

Thanks. I got on a friend's laptop who had 10 one time for about 5 seconds and all the panels or whatever you call them seemed weird. I'm used to small window icons on my screen and the start menu, etc. I didn't even begin to play around cause I figured I need to spend time with it.
I think I may switch. You can go back in 30 days although you lose some things it sounds like.

Is WIN10 faster than WIN7? If so, how much faster? Everybody says to get 10, but nobody seems to know why?

I have a 6 year old laptop with 10 on it and it runs worlds better than it did with 7 or 8.1 on it.

It's the best of Windows 8 and 7 with some new goodies

If your computer runs Windows 7 fine - it should run Windows 10 fine. My only concern would be very old hardware and DX12, but I think that is even a very minor concern. I upgraded a laptop from 2010 to Windows 10 with virtually no problems earlier this year.

If you tweak it just a little with a program called Classic Shell, it will appear as a new skin/theme for Windows 7 in all but a very few categories.
There are some privacy nightmares with Windows 10 - but there are a couple of online guides to walk you through turning off the worst of them.
I don't use Cortana or Edge, which are the "hot" new apps on Windows 10. I went mainly for DX12 and the other stability/enhancement changes over Windows 7 - although I was a happy Windows 7 user for over 5 years. I had some problems with drivers on my new Windows 10 build with the onboard Intel video drivers. Once I added a discrete GPU, those problems resolved and I have a very, very stable OS on my desktop. I've had zero issues with the laptop and Windows 10.

Classic Shell fixes all the problems with them making Windows 8 and Windows 10 a "device first, desktop second" OS.
Trust me. Classic Shell.

Yes I would, 10 has been solid so far.

OK. I took the plunge about 15 minutes ago. I have to say that general speaking, everything is faster and smoother. Browser is quicker. Videos render quicker and it seems the playback is clearer. The interface isn't nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be.

Get Win 10 for free now before you have to pay for it.
Four more days, so says CNET
ETA: I've had good experience with Windows 10 so far

Alright... I have a small issue with my new WIN10 upgrade. The timeout wheel activates every minute on the minute. I suspect it's an automatic updater for some unknown program. Assuming my hunch is correct, how do I tell which updater it is??

Try setting your screensaver to "none."

You're running out of time to get Windows 10 for free
Windows 7 is still running on more than 50% of Windows PCs.
the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which will be released on August 2, four days after the upgrade deadline
It wants to kill the password
Windows Hello lets you log into a Windows 10 device using face-detection, fingerprints or an iris scan (if you have the proper cameras and scanner hardware).
Poor Cortana. Until this update, you had to unlock a computer to use the digital assistant. Now it can answer your questions directly from the lock screen.

Not sure what DX12 is? I bought this laptop in early 12 and at the time I think it was a good computer 8gb RAM, i7 quad core 2670 @ 2.2 GHz. A couple years ago I put in a SSD on rec from ILikeLSU. Sounds good enough?

I read about some so I will guess I need to read more and switch them off.
