So the cool thing is the fire tv renamed the HDMI port I plugged it into automatically. The weird thing is I was still reconnecting cables and putting everything back and my phone starts going of saying my fire tv has been registered and updated.

WTF! I hadn't even turned the TV on or changed input to the box yet not to mention keying in my Amazon id

OK so then I installed Kodi... Then I installed exodus.. Which.. btw..is the exact same thing as showbox or cartoon hd but less hassle than casting from those phone apps.

So here's where inception starts..I try to search in exodus using voice and it throws me out to fire tv again.. Then I go back into Kodi but I'm still not in the right place so then I launch exodus again.. All along the path similar movie titles are on screen

Anyway so far it's OK. YouTube UHD still looks mediocre. The trade offs are very quite obvious in streaming. I'm hoping that improves over time.

Just pick a plan with PS Vue and live the good life. Use Kodi when you want to watch a movie. All set

I'm getting Xfinity x1 for the next 2 years for about a dollar more per month than internet alone and that includes sec network so not interested in Vue right now.

The biggest complaint about FireTV is that regardless of what you want to do, it wants you to go to Amazon and buy or watch something on Prime. It doesn't care whap app you're in, it's goal is to have you only watch Amazon stuff when you search stuff.

On Roku when you search a show, it tells you every app it's in and if it's free to watch or how much it cost.

My FireTV did the same when I plugged it into my tv as well, except it also linked to my tv remote somehow, which you'd think is nice, but it was more of a hassle than anything b/c the tv remote had no way of getting out of apps, and if I ever hit the guide button while watching cable, the input would get auto switched to the FireTV.

Holy shite mine too! I noticed when I picked up the wrong remote and was still able to navigate

Eta and what was the little cartoon guy babbling about? Had the sound down and was looking up the Kodi instructions on my phone the entire time he was on there so I have no idea what he was saying

My only gripe with the Amazon FireTV has been the audio. I have a 7.1 receiver with a 7.1 audio system. Many of you might have seen my audio questions lately about buying new equipment. Come to find out, it seems to have been the Amazon FireTV box.

It outputs most things in Dolby Digital Plus instead of PCM. Compared to my new Xbox One S, the Xbone S outputs EVERYTHING in PCM. A lot of my sound issues were due to the Dolby Digital Plus crap.

Just my take. Outside of that, the Amazon FireTV is the best affordable option compared Roku and AppleTV (in my opinion).

now if i can find a solution to playing my google music library i'll be set.

I really want to upgrade my 2008 Samsung 52inch TV to a 65 UHD/4k TV.

Just can't seem to find the 900-1500$ to drop on it. At least compared to more important crap like house upgrades/repairs, etc.

I'm still very disappointed that I have to regularly clear the cache and/or force stop Kodi in order to get streams to play without significant buffering issues. It's now a weekly occurrence. Sometimes I do it before I even start just to prevent the issue from popping up. I wish I could adjust the cache size up from 64kb since I have over 2GB of space not being used on the Fire TV.

This is all because of CEC. Input is passed over HDMI. Same way the input is renamed.

how do you stop that? If my tv remote had the full functionality of the Firetv remote then it would be awesome, but it doesn't. Like I said, I have no way of exiting apps that don't have an actual exit option somewhere to click on, like Vue.

i *think* you can disable this on most TVs but they all name the feature something slightly different making it confusing and i'm not sure what other problems you might run into disabling this after its already set up.

I use Allcast to stream from my Android to the Fire TV. Works pretty well.

i think the wear and tear thing was from the wiki page and it was talking about setting the value to 0, which i don't do. i don't know if there's a disc in there. i have no idea what's in there. you're better at computering than me.

sad thing is i just jumped on the fire TV box because it was on sale and the reviews said it was a decent 4k box with gig ethernet that could run kodi.

i havent even looked at the actual specs yet.
