I’ve spent upwards 1k on PC laptops of past. I’m just speaking my experience. I think both are good machines. I just have experience swaying my opinions in one direction. Obviously there are a few on here who have different experiences with each machines.

I'm laughing at you because apple uses the same hardware as PC.

This isn't the case with the OP's needs, but most people don't need more than what a $500 or less PC provides them. iMacs and MacBooks start at $1000. The integration of certain services like iMessage on the desktop are not worth the extra cost. If Apple would update the Mac Mini and would allow people to upgrade it themselves, then the platform integration becomes more relevant for most people. But they don't so it isn't.

Put your Lightroom catalog on the fastest hard drive you can. The photos themselves don't need to be on the fastest drive.

I think the tight integration of MULTIPLE services makes it more than worthwhile.

pls tell me more about where apple sources its hardware, and why manufacturers of Windows based PC and laptops don't use said hardware

What besides iMessage is unique to the Mac? I believe I remember them talking about "continuity" as an upcoming feature several year's back so I assume it's live, where you could easily jump from one device to the other editing a file with their office suite, but most people don't use Apple's office suite.
Also, something you may not be aware of, but to Apple's credit they have created some decent integration of iCloud with Windows. I can easily pull up my iCloud disk files and photos on Windows. It even adds things like Calendar events i create on my iPhone to my Outlook Calendar on Windows.
Even if they didn't offer that integration, there are plenty of free apps that let you do the same thing with files and photos. If doing it the Mac way is worth $500 to you great, I don't begrudge you that at all, but I think most people would value the money more.

This thread is awesome. People that use Macs: The integration is awesome and worth it! People that don't use Macs: The integration isn't worth it!

It works with Notes, Mail, Safari, and quite a few other native Mac apps. One glaring omission is Music and Video. As media focused as Apple is, it's bizarre that I can't hand off the song I'm listening to on my Mac to my iPhone or hand off the video I'm watching on my Apple TV to my iPad.
One feature I just realized I use all the time but you have to pay a subscription fee for on PC is Remote Desktop (Back to my Mac). I'm always going back and forth between my iMac and MacMini server at home and my laptop at work. If you're paying a yearly sub for LogMeIn that alone almost makes it worth it to go to a Mac.

Remote Desktop is part of the Pro versions of Windows. It is an added $80 cost but it's a one time thing, not a subscription.

I have windows Pro on all my machines since I'm constantly remoting in to them. No fee and windows RDC is great

OP, if you have an iPhone and you want to text or call from your phone (benefits of ecosystem), go with an iMac
If you're gaming, PC.

For $5 you can do all of this on Windows. Blame apples bullshite for that

Windows PCs are universally better for just about any task than an a Mac. It's a terrible narrative the sheep try to bring up

List price is $199. Most people would just need the $99 upgrade, and when I searched for that price there was a ton of OEM licenses for sale anywhere from $10-$30. Not sure how legit those are.
$99 is still a fair bit less than the jump from sub $500 PC to $1299 starting price iMac. Again, if Apple would update the Mac Mini and keep it starting at $499 it becomes a choice based on platform preference rather than how much good integration is worth to a person. I don't know why you're knighting so hard for a company that has had to have it's customer base complain and shame it into updating the Macs and Macbooks because they would prefer everyone buy an iPad Pro instead.

Because the OP wanted opinions on the two. I think if you have an iPhone, and perhaps an Apple Watch, you are far better off on the Mac eco system than a mish mash hodge podge on Windows. I take it you don't have either so you don't really know.
And FYI Apple updates its OS every year and gives out to the users for free. There's much less need to update to a "faster" iMac as they run fine for years as is, making the return on investment also worthwhile. Plus of course, you aren't running that Windows mess of an Interface they put in since 7.

Windows does the exact same thing.

So do decent Windows machines.
The difference is when people like to draw these comparisons, they are comparing an el cheapo windows unit to a macbook pro. Thats no more fair than comparing a chromebook to a surface.
