One thing to consider about her preference is if the majority of her friends have Mac, she will have that many more people to help troubleshoot
That is an interesting and helpful point I would not have thought of. Thanks.
Are you satisfied with the MacBook Pro?

I would go with that XPS 13 with the 8th gen i5.
You sacrifice the screen resolution (I don't think it'll be that noticeable for her), but it's an incredible machine and I'd highly recommend it

In my experience, the business world runs on PC. Apple is fine for a phone or iPad.
My kid is an Econ major. I did make a mistake and got a loaded 15” laptop. Should have gotten a thin 13” because they lug those things everywhere.
Lighted keyboard is a great feature. 16 Gb ram and upgraded graphics as well.

Yeah currently using a 2013 15” daily for work that is still plenty powerful enough for everything I’ve ever thrown at it. The only things that give it any trouble are massive excel files (50+ MB, have no business being in excel, really small SQL databases) and extremely large and complex Adobe Illustrator files.

most people at lsu have macs, they integrate well with iPhone, and in my experience my mac has lasted longer than most of my friend's pc's in addition to longer battery life

This is the truth. I had a Dell when I went to college. It shite the bed with the quickness. This was over 10 years ago though. My wife had a Mac when she started college and it is still operational although she also has a newer version and uses that now.

For instance, I have a nice Microsoft Surface that I have used for work. When I was off for a week, I attempted to turn it off. When I come back to work the next week, I turn on the surface and it's still on the "shutting down" screen from a week prior. I've had similar issues with His, Dells, etc where the computers just aren't consistent in terms of usability and convenience. Macs do what they are supposed to do and very rarely have problems. That piece of mind is worth the additional cost IMO

Probably because your friends bought shitty PCs.
Windows laptops nowadays destroy Macs in battery life and long term use due to having an 8th gen refresh

I travel with a Lenovo T430 as my personal laptop because I can open the lid every other week and its still charged..Toss it in the suitcase and drag it out when I get to the hotel..

You need to consider what software her courses require. My nephew is attending A&M this fall and A&M's engineering department says, "A large percentage of engineering applications require the Windows operating system. These applications will not run natively on macOS."

There should be some kind of electric fence around the Politics Board to keep the dogs from straying.

We can enclose a subsection of the board in an electrical fence to house you libs

Mac sucks if she ever wants to be a programmer.
And half the websites don't work right for mac.
I have mac for two reasons.
Few malware issues.
No administration.
Pc wasted your time with admin issues.
You can get all software for pc.
Limited palette for mac.
Econ or not she'll take a few database and programming courses. Pc.
let her get mac.
If she ever sees that its preventing access to something, she gets a cheap pc. She better know pc admin though.
101 course.
