I was given ring pro doorbell camera, I had been thinking about getting Arlo cameras outside. Should I get ring cameras to match doorbell camera system?

It’s nice to have everything in one app but not necessary. Any cameras over 3 cameras is basically free on Ring if you want cloud recording.

I think it all comes down to if you want to pay $10 or even $3. I'm a fan of Ring, no experience with Arlo though.

I like the idea of one app, would prefer it. Just wasn’t sure how good the ring cameras are compared to other brands. I would probably put 5 or six cameras up to go with the ring door bell.

I’ve been more than satisfied with them, nest is a shade better, but also way more expensive. I’ve also got the Alarm, so it’s all in one app and super cheap.

Hardwired/plugin for Ring are much better than the battery powered devices. Floodlights are my favorite.

Eventually I would like to go to a smart home. Wife has a google that she uses for music. After installing cameras, the thermostat is next.

A question about the hardwired cameras, , how long is the power cord? I’m going have to run some outlets in the attic.

Just installed one this morning. Very cool and easy set up for a small investment. The app has a lot of functionality as well.

If you are using Google Ring will not work because it is owned by Amazon. Go with nest

20ft for the spotlight. They also make a spotlight that you could hardwire, but at that price the floodlight is a better deal.

i have the battery powered camera and it's been pretty great. i'm no electrician and this was an easy solution instead of running wires.

That's just because you don't have experience with their hardwired ones. Hardwired does prerecording which means you see 2 seconds before the motion triggered. Battery powered ones sense motion, then start recording so depending on the angle, you may get a recording of nothing if it moves fast. Also, hardwired has a lot better motion detection settings(should be coming to battery devices this year). Not hating the battery, but if you have the opportunity for hardwired, 100% go hardwired.

I agree with this. Although I got two battery spotlights for $150 so I’m not complaining. But the battery only lasts about a month in a high traffic area. And the motion settings are really limited.

Also they really need a feature for the battery cam that allows you to turn it off. I have one on my back porch looking at the back door and back yard. The other day we had a bunch of people over cooking, drinking, kids playing. Didn’t need the cam to record all day.

running my own surveillance system with at home recording, im actually now considering moving to a cloud based one. It has been a priority to me to have it onsite and access to it without paying but my priories are changing.

when i movce in the next year or 2 or 3 im gonna look into getting a all in one system, alarm, cameras, doorbell.

You should. I emailed them and they acknowledged that they get this request frequently. The rep said they were working to get that feature to the battery cams.

Ring’s price is hard to complain about for unlimited cameras and alarm. $100 a year is less than 3 months of just my old crappy alarm system.
