LINK

this is the drive all the geeks rave about.

amazon is $185 + tax for the same thing.

cheapest i can find the 6TB at amazon is $136 + tax

in short, i can go pick up the 8TB today on my way home and i'm effectively paying $26 for an additional 2TB (the diffference between $150 and $176 after taxes are calculated)

i've been monitoring ebay for months on the 6TB and 8TB versions of these drives and all the sellers (including amazon) want more than this best buy deal if that helps.

also the 6TB drives have dried up recently and where i was seeing plenty for around $100, now they're up to $140.

and before you go find a shitty 6TB drive on ebay...i'm *SPECIFICALLY* talking about the WD My book/easystore (bb branded) drives only. not other crap brands.

people are buying these (see above) strictly because of how easy they are to 'shuck' the drive and add it to an internal RAID.

Crack the shell open and boom, you have an internal drive sitting inside of it

I wouldn't put forth that much effort. Just wanted to give you shite about Amazon/eBay.

Exactly. WTF do I need that big of a drive for? You storing movies? And RAID? If I need a drive that large I’d look into server class storage.

Lol are y'all serious? I'll likely need another 8tb drive within the year. 4K movies take up a ton of space and with data caps I'm streaming as little as possible. Add tv shows, my personal HD video and photo library spanning the last 20 years and an entire music library in flac format and I bet it's going to be 50% full by the time I'm done transferring everything next week.

Plex is my God now.

Eta yes I use Google photos but the hell I'm trusting them with my digital memories without a local backup.

I have about 30TB of storage total when you add up my 16TB ZFS array and all my external hard drives..... and I'm running out of storage.

I'm too old and too tired to digitize videos whenever I can just stream that stuff. That sounds like a LOT of work.

It's a start it and forget it process. Almost zero effort. Keep an eye on that Gb meter your ISP is running.

Well i just ordered 3.

now i need to figure out how im going to set up my server.

I'll have 3-3 TB drives and 38-TB drives. Any ideas? I want the most drive space possible with some parity.
