Projector Recommendations?

I Had a BenQ DLP HD 1080p Projector (W1070) and an Elite Screen 120" In my old house. They were included in the sale, which was fine as they were all like 8 years old.
I'd like a 4k upgrade this time. I'll be Ceiling mounting At about 10' - 10.5' away so I dont think I need a short throw.
Should I look at a brand other than BenQ? the 4Ks are like 1700.
Its a Bonus room that will have blackout curtains to make it a pretty dark room.

not sure how long the wait would be but it might be best to wait for some Dolby Vision projectors to hit the scene in large numbers.

Bad news, those aren't 4k. :(
Believe this is the cheapest actual 4k projector.

LG HU810pw. Have had this one over a year. Use it daily.

That would be nice but it doesn't look likely any time soon. Even the 5 figure high end laser models from JVC & Sony aren't there yet.
A "true" 4K projector starts at $5-6K, everything under that is a simulated 4K using pixel shifting. That can give a very good result though. The LG HU810PW is pretty well reviewed and probably hard to beat in its price range. The HDR handling isn't going to be like what you'd get on a good OLED or LCD TV but you have to go into a much higher price range for that.

It seems to me once you fire up an over 100" screen you end up not giving much of a care about that.

I use a 120" with my LG projector. Had a party at my house this past weekend. Someone asked me where I got such a large TV. She didn't even notice it was a projector. It's a pretty high quality image.

Exactly. I haven't seen anything about them that makes me notice much difference and the picture size makes up for any deficiency that may exist.

I have been using a 120” screen for my main tv for almost 10 years. The only negative I have is bulb life of a regular bill but i don’t watch a ton of TV and a washed out picture if lights are on. 120” of screen makes up for that because I usually have the lights low if I really care about watching something.
I have a Epson 5050 and like it. It’s not a true 4K like mentioned but the pic is great about 15’ or so away. I like the Eposon because they have a big range of adjustment without needing keystone. My projector is pretty high up so I need the adjustment to get it down to my projector.
Go to projector central and read up on different ones they test out, lots of good info.

Unfortunately yes, it's all marketing bullshite. Those vibrating DMD's aren't actually 4k.
