If you are in BR id be happy to let you see how it would look in your room. The unit is for sale.

Yep, add a zero and you'll be in a decent range. We found a refurbished 5000 lumen BenQ for $3400.
Do you know what kind of screen you have (material)? Do you have good light control in the room, or are there windows and ambient light?

There are some pretty decent projectors in the $800-1K range if you don't care about 4K.
If you want 4K plus some HDR compatibility (HDR is hard with projectors due to the light limitations), the BenQ TK850 is around $1600 and well regarded. Here's a review of its similar model TK850i which just includes an extra feature or two but is the same.
If you plan to game, that review also mentions the Optoma HD50X - here's a review of it.
$3k price range was mentioned. That's probably well outside of the OP's budget, but one thing I'd also take a look at is used JVC projectors. JVC has been the preferred brand of home theater enthusiasts for quite a while and their last several generations have been the standard by which others including Sony are judged. JVC just introduced several new models for the first time in 3-4 years so there could be a lot of older ones coming on the used market at attractive pricing. I've got one that I'm hoping to upgrade next year, myself.
Also - I'm guessing the OP has seen some of the cheap Chinese projectors that are all over Amazon to skew expectations in that price range. These are going to be nowhere near as bright as claimed, probably not native 1080p resolution, have a cheap lens that won't focus uniformly, have color issues etc. If you don't care about any of that I guess they have a usable picture.
