If you own a physical bluray, you are legally allowed to make a backup. For viewing convenience, many store their backups on their plex server.
It's kind of a legal grey area whether you are allowed to download a backup that someone else made, but morally speaking I don't see a problem with outsourcing the task of backing up your movie collection. You can find sources of backups by researching torrents and/or usenet/newsgroups.

How do y’all get movies for a plex server?
Get a computer
Get a vpn
Torrents
I went through the hassle of converting dvds we owned to the computer. We probably had 200-300 dvds. The quality was crap and the files were huge. So I just started downloading torrents instead.
You’ll realize once you ditch cable, there’s nothing worthwhile on cable tv outside of live events, and if you have an antenna, all your missing is ESPN sports. There are more than enough shows to watch on Netflix and Hulu and Amazon. Other than CBS, you can watch all network shows on their apps for free.
And my big worry was my kids not having Disney and Nick. They’ll get by just fine on Netflix, I promise. And hell you can get Disney+ if you really wanted to, and you probably don’t really even need to download torrents if you have Disney+, Amazon and Netflix, b/c you’ll have more than enough content there.

The new chromecast makes checking all the different apps for current movies a non-issue now. I know that wasn't a con listed for everyone but having one home screen that lets you play all the movies/shows from what apps you have linked saved me a huge amount of time. I used to either forget which app had the show or got tired of browsing. Now I check the recommended or just voice search it and it auto starts the apps

pretty sure roku and firetv do something similar.
you just say 'play titanic' and it shows you everywhere it exists and whether its free or pay so you can quickly figure out where the free version is and its one additional click to launch it.

they do.
I don't understand why anyone uses a chromecast. Why would you buy that instead of a roku or firetv?
