I'm just curious what everyone is doing to store and manage their photos these days. 99% of the photos we take (mostly of the kids) are on my and the wife's iPhone. Historically, I download all the photos at the end of the year and save on a hard drive (which is painful) and have both devices set up on Google Photos, which is where I view them primarily.

I have given up on organizing the hard drive into folders and now just use "2020 CidCock iphone" and drop everything in there and again use Google Photo to view them. It's not the best solution, but I maintain a hard copy and a digital copy.

With Google photo starting to charge this year, it doesn't seem like it's the best option. If I am going to pay, I'd rather not pay Google. Google's search is incredible and I hate to give it up moving forward, but I am definitely not planning on paying an escalating cost (as more storage is required moving forward). What's the future of this look like?

I still have hard copies of everything and believe most of the metadata has been preserved, so I'm hoping I don't have to go back to sorting photos through File Explorer.

Not sure what my questions is, other than what is everyone else doing?

I have an SD card that has all of my photo on it. I connect a USB-C cable to the phone and back it up on our laptop and portable HDD. When it gets full or close to it, I back it up with a newer, bigger SD card for less that $20.

Can you do that with iPhone? Interesting.

It's painful every year to get these photos off. There's always some kind of file type error or some of them.

I have been using Plex for several years, so I've been transitioning over to using my own server for photo storage and management.

Considering S3 Deep Archive for backups, don't think you can beat $1/mth/TB.

I use Plex to view and organize all our photos and videos that we save on our computers hard drive. Plex has a tool to pull the pics and vids off your phone but a recent update seems to have messed that up at least for me. Now I use drop box to move pictures from my phone to my computer. The free version has plenty of space to move files and then delete off Dropbox.

No. It's a major reason while I'll never own one too.

I have two Synology stations geographically spaced.

I have one backup the other.

NAS/home server and for auto offsite storage I've seen Backblaze recommended by professional photographers.
