PC: Youtube Links open in some weird chrome browser page instead of actual YT page

When googling something, sometimes YT videos show up. But clicking on them opens them in another chrome browser tab with no comments - only a button to "Youtube ->" which opens in actual youtube.
And yes, I've googled this. It appears to be driving more people than me completely batshit.
Any of you folks having a similar problem?

What browser are you searching in?
My kid had some YouTube redirect malware show up on his computer that would redirect any links he clicked on through some other page first. It was very annoying, but apparently common. Maybe it’s something like that?

check your list of chrome addons for new and/or unfamiliar ones; if nothing weird there, check recently installed programs.
