all i know is the 289 page 5008/3008 thread at AVS says onkyo has been very generous about fixing this issue out of warranty for customers.

my thought as well. AVRs are 'throw aways' IMO because the tech is changing by leaps and bounds.
i can't imagine giving up my bluetooth, wifi, 127 HDMI ports and all the new firmware updates onkyo pushes my way now in a sub $300 unit.
6 years ago i was happy to have 5.1 audio and 4 hdmi ports.

Onkyo 3008's selling point for me was using massive transformers for a receiver (receiver weighs 60 lbs) and having the same Burr-Brown PCM1796 DAC as below receivers:
$7,500 Denon A1HD receiver
$7,000 Denon AVP-A1 Pre-Pro
$5,000 Yamaha RX-Z11 receiver
$5,200 Denon AVR-5308CI receiver
$2,000 Denon 3800 blu-ray player
$2,100 Marantz BD8002 blu-ray player
Rather than buying a separate pre amp, power amp, and DAC I thoguht I'd try all-in-one Onkyo flagship receiver because it had good power for a receiver and a good DAC. Onkyo did deliver the best "bang for the buck" until it failed on me.

Klipsch RF-7. I didn't know jack about Klipsch RF-7 or Klipsch Klipschorn, La Scala, Cornwall, etc until I accidentally heard them.
I planned to demo and buy B&W or Paradigm studios but Klipsch sitting right next to it fricking blew me away. I've always thought they were second tier movie speakers and not Hi-Fi speakers until I heard them.

Klipsch is really nice at that reference line and up. High efficiency speakers are really great for home theater use. Greater dynamics, less compression, ability to play at reference level without huge amplification. I have 3 of the now defunct Chase Home Theater SHO-10s (97db/W/M) in my setup.

I just don't get spending 2100 for a receiver and 3200 for speakers unless it's for commercial use. Damn..and I could afford that if I wanted but it's not worth it.

i'm such a jew. i got those acoustech towers and a HSU sub for like $500 and negotiated the hell out of the deal..the guy on ebay would do 'private' auctions with all the speakers in a single lot if you emailed them and told them you wanted a discount for buying the whole set.
that was the heady days of BING BUCKS and i got like $100 cashback on top of the speakers for a great price. i sure miss that 35% off ebay deals from bing back in the day.

I really want to try the Klipsch heritage series next. I'd love to have a pair of Flagship Klipschorn or modified Klipschorn Jubille. Klipschorn was first launched in 1946 and the design hasn't change at all even after nearly 70 years.

It cost me $14 to send it to the repair center in Michigan. I didn't like that I had to pay it, but it wasn't "high" by any means.

How to fix this issue for free.
My Integra (Onkyo premium brand) receiver was days away from two years old when it started making popping noises, the sound cut off at times, and my iphone app could not connect to it.
Googling found numerous posts on AVS Forums and Reddit about Onkyo and Integra models having this chip issue. They often fail at about 18 to 24 months. Warranty on Onkyo is 2 years, Integra is 3.
I was thinking I would have to ship it ($70 or so) for a warranty repair. Then I find that there is a sort of recall where they pay for the shipping both ways.
Loss of Audio/Network Connection Customer Care Program LINK Another LINK
You type in your serial number. If your unit is affected, they send you a box and shipping label.
The site said my unit was not affected, which was obviously horseshite. When I called Integra, the little idiot I spoke to acted like no Integra models were affected by the issue. (Contrary info is all over the internet from customers and repair shops.)
I read on AVS Forum that Jose Torres (jose.torres@us.onkyo.com or parts@us.onkyo.com) is the dude you need to talk to, so I emailed him about the issue, sent serial no., copy of sales receipt, etc.
He replied immediately and asked me if I had my original box to return it in. (I had read that some folks who were still under warranty were required to pay to ship their unit, per warranty terms.) I asked if he would send me one the prepaid boxes like on the "customer care program," and he did.
I dropped it off at FedEx on a Tuesday, and it was repaired and back on Wednesday of the next week. It was a pain in the arse to reconnect all the wires and redo the setup (they do a factory reset on it), but it works fine so far.
I know this is long, but maybe it will save someone the several days of frustration and boiling anger I had as I tried to troubleshoot and resolve this damned problem.
