Glad I went with the cooper.
there's a whole debate about whether the BULB should be smart (zwave & dimming built in) vs a dimmer control on the wall.
given the LED bulbs last 10+ years, i'm not sure which is the better way to go:
PROS for bulb - each bulb in a fixture could have its own 'dimming' percent set differently..might be useful for a theater room where some lights are brighter & some are dimmer.
PROS for dimmer switch - you cant inadvertantly 'turn off' the switch rendering the smart bulb useless.

Yea, I didn't want to be limited on the choices of actual bulbs. Right now there are only a few on the market.
Which made my choice easy.

I am really waiting for the smart locks to improve. Hopefully a second generation will come around.

what features are you lacking?
that schlage has a BUTTLOAD.
i do like the 'users' feature in the WINK app because i can see not only when my door was locked or unlocked, but which family member just came in (or left)

kwikset is a joke.
that blue 'apple' lock isnt much better.
i freaking love my schlage! i havent found anything i dislike about it yet.

they are unreliable.

In what way exactly??
Where are you finding these negative reviews because the schlage lock has been the best thing about that pos wink system I installed.

That looks pretty cool, but it reminds me too much of the Nest.

I absolutely love my schlage. Once installed it's done everything I wanted it to do perfectly. Babysitter has a code, wife has a code, in laws have a code tomorrow the bug guy is coming, he'll text me when he is in the driveway I'll unlock it. When my dropcam tells me he leaves I'll lock it back up. It's an amazing lock.

Which one are you leaving behind? Would you like to sell it, or are the new owners expecting it with the house?

well thats a very interesting proposition..since we haven't actually sold the old house yet..the lock is still in play.
i pulled out the MyQ and Honeywell WiFi thermostats but didn't mess with the front door lock.
let me think about it.

bump, just picked up a different style schlage for my house (same zwave tech that works via WiFi) for a cool $100 (half of retail).
here's the seller; they have one left if interested..note this is satin nickel.

Interesting lunch conversation brought up a hypothetical. Since your smoke detectors are linked to your doors, If no one is home, and I cut a piece of glass to your house, through in a smoke bomb, do I gain free access to rob you blind?

thats alot of work..why not just go in the window you broke instead of alerting me and my SO (since we both get notifications on all our devices if either the CO2 or smoke detector is triggered) and setting off a loud smoke alarm and turning all the lights on as well?
seems you'd be more successful if you're quiet.

Don't want to get cut up from climbing through broken glass. If no one is home, who cares about the lights being on? How long would it take you to drive home after you get the alert?
On a realistic note, it would have to be an inside job. The average thief wouldn't know you have everything connected. It was just conversation over a few beers at lunch.

Thanks, just picked it up. I had been wanting to pull the trigger on one of these, at that price I couldn't pass it up.

you're going to love it!
step 1: if you run into ANY trouble setting it up initially, CALL SCHLAGE. A friendly woman picked up on like the 3rd ring and was incredibly helpful..we had to do a 'factory reset' to get it working and thanks to her, it took about 30 seconds to get it going.
The only trick is the initial 'self test' where it tries to figure out how its been installed sometimes doesn't work correctly and you have to reset it.
she even said "ok do you want to do anythting else?" and when i explained i had a WINK Hub she was like "hey i'll help you set that up too if you want."

wasn't expecting help connecting their rock-solid device to some half-arse hub sold by a bunch of hippies at quirky who refuse to grow up and run their business like adults.
(that was out loud wasnt it?)

I love this lock so very much...

It was 99 cents from black Friday through Christmas. You pay that much for a mcChicken.
Eta and like a mcchicken it looks and tastes delicious until about an hour later when you regret buying and eating it.
