Does anyone have experience with a zwave gate controller that would work with Wink? I have a mighty mule gate motor that is controlled with what looks like a garage door fob. I would love to be able to tell Alexa to open the gate. Any ideas?

which model do you have?
you could possibly add a zwave device like this: zwave relay. you need to supply it 120VAC and wire it up as a dry-contact. one of the motors i looked at accepted a push button to control the gate. you would put this relay in parallel or in place of that button.
you would need to add an additional sensor on the gate to sense open or closed.

can you put a Wink relay on a 3 gang switch panel and just ad a 3rd switch? or not.

It will fit perfect over a 3 gang switch but the third switch on mine was supposed to be for fan light but wasn't hooked up so no problem with relay only accepting 2 inputs.
One controls 2 outlets (top switch only) that I have 2 lamps plugged into and the other controls the ceiling fan

I have the mighty mule 350. The way it is connected is to a marine battery which is connected to a wall socket to keep it charged.
I'll take a look at this, Thanks!

Looking at pdf manual for your motor, you'll want to install the zwave relay inside by your ac transformer (plug) for the gate. The zwave relay is not made to be outside. You will need to either run wire in conduit if that's how the existing power is run or buy direct burial wire like stated in the manual. If put in conduit you could use 16 gauge speaker or alarm wire. It's a pair of wires so makes it easier to pull in conduit.

Thanks! Looking at it, it appears to be just what I need. I checked Amazon and there is a note saying that it isn't certified to work with Alexa. Anyone use this particular model and find that it actually does work with Alexa?

what zwave hub do you have?
the device itself is not compatible with Alexa (doesn't have a zwave radio), but that doesn't mean you can't tell Alexa to activate the gate then your hub sends the command to the relay.
What you'll do is have Alexa send an "ON" command to the hub for the relay. Then on your hub have it turn the relay "OFF" 1 sec after sending the "ON" command. I'm assuming your gate works like a garage door where you don't hold the button down until the door is open.

From the hub? The plug it would be connected to is probably 20 feet away, through a couple of walls.

Can this wink relay be wired to a 3 way switch

...but you can easily get rid of the 3 way and use a smart switch or remote to simulate a 3 way
Posted on 4/22/17 at 2:17 pm to mctiger1985
Yea that's what I basically did. removed the 3 way and just let my wife wonder why the switch didn't work.

If she gets too pissed, you can buy a $20 lutron remote and a $3 switch bracket for it and with wink you can program that remote to operate the light connected to the relay so you still have the same functionality as before.

hey recently have you been having issues on the wink app with lights that are on, but the switch on the app says they are off? i watch it as a click the toggle on, the light and the toggle turns on then the toggle goes off but the light is still on.
