The Ring pro is great the problem is with the homes wifi network 99% of the time. If swapped out plenty Pro (1080p) for the regular model (720p) because of this issue.

Skybell is coming out with a new Trim Plus model that they announced at CEDIA last year but I still haven't seen them. But it is also a 1080p model so I'm sure it will have similar issues. I've had nothing but complaints with the last two skybell models.

I've heard great things about DoorBird but I have no experience with them.

what im looking for is the ability to record the footage to my home server as well as it do its normal think of taking pics and shite when a doorbell is rung.

well people also have issue with the install too. Powering issues, electric door chimes etc. But once the installer gets passed properly installing it the majority of issues are always wifi related. I've sold hundreds of them and that's what I seeing brah.

Seems like this is my experience while reading reviews on smart home gear.

the next gen of video doorbells that will hopefully have learned from the mistakes of these on the market currently.

because by definition cameras are there to provide FLAWLESS HD video which you combine with metal, brick and other materials in soffits between you and the 'customer defect router' on the other side of the house will render wifi virtually unusable for this type of application.

oh and there's the little matter of needing to hire an electrician at $150+ to install a protected power outlet nearby at each drop....

Right because none of the big players have made a second version yet nor has any new companies come out with products. You don't even see much from this category at the trade shows.

You don't know what you are even talking about once you get out your CAD bubble. And it's a good thing because I would hate to take down my HD 30 optical zoom PTZ camera I have on my warehouse.

I don't even consider wifi cameras as security cameras. They are great to check on the kids or dog but they are not good for protecting a property. You want security cameras hardwired them. Give them a dedicated recorder and if they are IP put them on their own network. To say any camera without POE is trash is flat out ignorance on your part. There are plenty of good HD over coax cameras on the market. You don't have to power the camera locally either so no need to call out your $150 electrician.

So to get back to the reason why I posted in this thread today was to point out the DoorBird camera for the poster looking for another option on the market. Like is said earlier it's ONVIF compatible so it integrates with systems unlike the Ring/Skybell platforms.

define "good".

good for your business because you can sell them all the expensive controller doodads they will need as opposed to a $50 chinese 1080p camera with PoE that anyone can install in minutes?

Funny for residential and small business applications I sell more HD over coax than IP because it's cheaper. And yes we source it from China.

maybe i should use a different term.

how about a 'reboot' of smart doorbells based on all the products that hit the market about the same time.

i know you're not being purposely dense. i know it.
